If you’re Apple remote won’t pair with this Apple TV
If I’d looked at the reviews of this item closer, I probably would’ve passed on it for another seller. But I didn’t… and I ordered 3 of them. Like many other reviews here, the remotes wouldn’t pair (I tried all three of them I purchased. no dice). I tried everything. Here’s the solution that actually works: Connect your Apple TV to ethernet, connect your iPhone (this is a requirement) to the same network, open the Apple TV app, connect to the newly found Apple TV, set everything up and go directly to settings->system->software updates->update software. This gets the Apple TV on a tvOS version that supports the remote that ships with these Apple TV’s. (Note: you’re doing this all with your iPhone as the remote). Once the Apple TV reboots, press and hold the back arrow and the volume up button on the remote control it was shipped with and boom! Paired (assuming you already charged the remote). Everything from there on out works like a dream.
