Do Not Jump To Judgement
The first time I needed to use an Instant Cold Pack, it was not an easy experience in order to get to Cold. I would squeeze according to the directions with immense pressure equally distributed around the circumference of the Pack, ( as an aside, I was a combat medic in VN and have been strength training since I came home. Ergo, I will attest to the durability of the Instant Cold Pack ) to continue, it was No Joy for Cold , even after I massaged the granules into place. My second try was a lot more fruitful. Same pack, this was for the Church so I could not waste them. Same routine, but now, I really was aggressive with the movement of the granules and, after about a minute, The Eagle Had Landed ! Also, the pack stayed in tact, no tears or leaks, and the cold was really cold and remained usable to reduce pain and swelling. Now, I am not advocating for an eight hour cold pack treatment. The normal rules for cold pack therapy are in place, of course. We do not want to reduce pain and cause frost damage to the skin. By staying cold for so long, eight hours by my timing, a break from use can be taken without having to use another pack when therapy is recontinued. By staying cold for so long, one pack can treat more than one site. Three different sites was the best I could do using 10-15 minute treatment time per site. Now, I think that I have an answer to the people who found it a negative to have to manipulate the pack for so long before reaching an excellent level of cold; Please consider the following:1) The manipulation time will allow you to calm down and focus on something else besides the pounding in your head,2) also, it will give you a little time to talk to the Little One and calm his fear. After such a short time, one minute, you will be looked at as a magician.3) you have a little time to calmly eyeball the injured child and assess the damage and act accordingly. This is an excellent product that I was going to scrap because it did do what I wanted fast enough. The extra time certainly led to long term usability and that is the BIG plus.

Great for traveling
I purchased these cold packs for an overseas trip I took in Feb/March. I was on a tour with 34 other people and there was a lot of walking. I have knee and ankle issues and wore braces while out and about, but I still needed to ice in the evenings. These ice packs did the trick. The cold didn’t last as long as I’d like, but it was enough to help keep my knees and ankles from swelling and helped with the strain/pain. When I cracked the first one open, it took a lot of strength and I was worried I’d break it wide open – but it didn’t and thus I figured out how to best get the cold activated. These were certainly worth the cost and I’ll buy them again and use them when I travel the next time (especially if there will be a lot of walking).

Great size BUT Doesn’t maintain cold
Perfect size for minor injuries but unfortunately the packs don’t remain cold for long enough to be helpful. I offered my mom one for a sore shoulder and about 90 seconds after it was activated she said “Huh…I think maybe this one didn’t get shaken up enough or something because it’s already lost it’s coldness”. I went to check and shook it around to see if maybe we hadn’t sufficiently activated all the materials inside because it had been cold when pouch was initially snapped-but, nope. It was already room temp liquid.Hopeful that the 1st was just a dud we got another out and snap, shook to activate-like the first it worked initially but did not maintain cold for even 3 min. Really it was only capable of maintaining an expected temp level for about the first 90 seconds. We read and re-read the instructions just to make sure there was nothing that we had missed- but, like most folks, we’ve used many of this instant cold pack style many times and there is nothing to indicate that the manner of use is any different from others.I can only guess that maybe the amount of active ingredients in this brand (or the batch we received at least) was severely lacking.Very disappointing since the size and quantity would otherwise be ideal to keep stocked in our first aid kits. With very active kids and an elderly mom around we use ice packs several times a week- both the reusable freezer type and the instant kind- and I was definitely excited because this size is perfect and the quantity was just right, so this could have become a regular monthly purchase IF only the packs were able to maintain therapeutic cold temperatures for at minimum 10 min.If you reformulate let us know but otherwise it isn’t a product I’d recommend or use again.

Works great, but open the box and check all packs when it arrives.
These work great. They are a nice size and stays cold for a good amount of time. I always have hot and cold packs (especially cold packs) on hand with me all of the time because my two kids play sports and if they aren’t getting injured, then someone around is. I purchased these ones to replace my last box and yes they have been sitting in the same place I put them under my sink since then. We just finished baseball season and I had only gone through half of the box. I went to see how many I had left in case we needed to order more and I had 2 good ones left. The 10 at the bottom of the box were already broken and not usable anymore. I could see one or maybe 2 from shipping, but 10 is a bit much. Other than not being happy that I have just about half a box of useless cold packs, I do recommend these. Just be sure to check your box when they arrive.
