Excellent choice. I bought these for my dad and they fit perfect. Made my life easier than buying other brands. My dad has swollen feet due to diabetes and it’s a mission to find comfortable shoes that are easy to put on. Thanks.

Great shoes
Broke my thumb last year and couldn’t tie my shoes. The velcro/hook & loop saved the day. The shoes fit perfectly and are quite comfortable.

Good sneaker for an elderly parent
This is the 3rd pair of these AVIA shoes we purchased. Over 1.5 yr ago, we originally bought a black and a white pair, and this time, we ordered a gray pair. The hook and loop (velcro) closure is very important to my dad, b/c he has arthritis in his hands and can no longer tie shoe laces – and you can’t find many options out there with velcro closures. The rubber sole pattern for enhanced grip is extremely helpful when my dad walks on wood/tile/marble floors (his feet do not slide around like with other shoes, which can cause him to slide, trip and fall). [WE DO HAVE AN ISSUE WITH THE RUBBER SOLES – THEY WEAR OUT FASTER THEN EXPECTED AND THEY LOSE THE ENCHANCED GRIP W/IN A YEAR OF USE – WHICH CAUSES YOUR FEET TO SLIP ON SMOOTH SURFACES – NOT GOOD FOR AN OLDER PERSON TO DEAL WITH, THUS HAVING TO BUY ANOTHER PAIR WITH NEW RUBBER SOLES EACH YEAR] The synthetic leather upper is good for easy clean up too. He does like these shoes and finds them very comfortable to wear. So far, these shoes have proven to be good for my dads needs and are a good price too. I would recommend them to anyone, especially if you need them for an elderly parent, but be prepared to purchase a new pair every year b/c of the rubber sole wearing out faster than expected (AVIA should be able to improve upon that – right?!) Outside of the rubber sole issue, the rest of the sneaker’s quality does deserve an overall rating of 4 stars.

Great shoes, but falling apart
I purchased several pairs of Avia-Union II shoes and have worn them daily. Even at 70, I walk for hours each day and usually in the Avia shoes. Here is my review:Strengths:(1) Comfort. These shoes are amazingly comfortable walking. My “sample size” is large, because as stated above, I walk hours each day, 7 days a week in these shoes. And every time I walk in these shoes, I am still amazed at the degree of comfort. There is a great degree of padding that can be felt while walking.(2) Easy to Put On. The two velcro straps per shoe make it very easy to secure; much better than the standard shoe laces.(3) Price. For about $50, these shoes are a bargain.Weaknesses:(1) After about one year wearing these shoes almost every day, the shoes have started to separate at the toes on both shoes. So the shoes are falling apart.
