Good ideas and help for a teacher
I could read at 4 and I never taught my children to read or even to write their alphabet. This was a problem in being expected to teach other people’s children to read as I had no idea what to do or that some children would struggle for years to be able to read. I even kept my children out of kindergarten in fear of them being bored. I was bored in school as the teacher spent their time teaching others to read. I obviously needed this book to help me teach children as my education was more theoretical than practical. My children could read like me and one asked why he could always read. We did talk very late due to tonsil problems. I never think a late talker is automatically slow. This author is also big on play and my early schools did a lot of play and singing.

Every ECE teacher should have to read this book!
I have been following Vanessa Levin at Pre-K Pages and Teaching Trailblazers for years. I thought I knew everything there was to know about teaching literacy in my classroom but after reading her brand new book, Teach Smarter: Literacy Strategies for Early Childhood Teachers, I came away with yet more AMAZING literacy tips and tricks that I can easily bring back to my classroom and use right away! I LOVE that she shares personal stories with us from her days as a teacher and personal stories and snippets from teachers around the world. Those stories and snippets prove that we are all in this together, to learn, grow, and want to give children the best learning opportunities possible! After reading this book I can’t help but feel I’m part of a movement to be the best teacher I can be and Vanessa is there cheering me on! This book is a MUST HAVE on every ECE teacher’s professional development shelf! -JC

Good resource for quick ideas
The information is great for a new teacher or new to younger grades. For more seasoned teachers it is a great review. Keep it near by when planning for a quick idea. I tend to get distracted by all the things I need to print out and laminate when I look online for a “quick” idea.

Spot On with what is truly best for Pre-K kiddos!
My hubbie and I flew to Missouri last week to meet our newest grandson and so I had the TEACH SMARTER book shipped there so I could read it in between hugs and cuddles!I feel like I want to be the Pied Piper of lil Peoples OR The Johnny Appleseed of Developmentally Appropriate approaches by handing this book out to every ECE that I know. After reading and re-reading it🥰💓, I composed a list of aha moments and I plan on buying a couple more copies to share with my teaching team so we can delve into this book together. I loved that this book gave me more of different view of how to teach literacy skills to preschoolers and how to overcome different issues with teaching preschoolers in the literature field.

The intention of this book was good, but I would have preferred a more in-depth discussion of how to effectively teach each area to pre-kindergarteners and less promotion of the author’s membership site.
