The 8th Edition of the popular Computer A Top Down Approach builds on the authors’ long tradition of teaching this complex subject through a layered approach in a “top-down manner.” The text works its way from the application layer down toward the physical layer, motivating students by exposing them to important concepts early in their study of networking. Focusing on the Internet and the fundamentally important issues of networking, this text provides an excellent foundation for students in computer science and electrical engineering, without requiring extensive knowledge of programming or mathematics. The 8th Edition has been updated to reflect the most important and exciting recent advances in networking, including software-defined networking (SDN) and the rapid adoption of 4G/5G networks and the mobile applications they enable.

    Great Book
We used this book in college and it was full of so much great information that I purchased it to keep for reference. (I have no idea what happened to my original book)

Purchased new; has some exterior issues
The corners of the book are a bit folded up and creased, as well as some more minute exterior flaws. Purchasing new shouldn’t have this issue.

    A very good foundation
This book will serve as a very good foundation from which you can build up your theoretical understanding of computer networks. The author uses a very friendly approach to explaining concepts. I highly recommed this book for beginners.

    As expected
The book is just what I ordered. I haven’t come across any production quality issues that others experienced.

    Avoid this version
Book is good and an easy enough read, but the amount of typos I am coming across is worrisome. Did anyone proof read this thing?Edit: I have just realized some pages are cut off entirely. For example, in the copy I received, a review question on page 97 cuts off mid sentence, but does not resume on page 98. I don’t know if this is due to it being the Indian subcontinent version (which I didn’t realize until after it arrived), but this print has zero quality assurance.

    Tons of typos
How a book with typos on every single page (mostly benign, but some egregious) is in its eighth edition is beyond me. I spend more time verifying whether what I just read is a typo or not, than actually reading the book. Also, they like to use two indistinguishable greyscale modes in their charts.. I guess they wrote it in color but shipped it in black/white? So for example, there will be a diagram of some sort with a key, A: White, B: Black, C: Greyscale 1, D: Greyscale 2. Well, good luck ever distinguishing C from D in this chart.I normally don’t complain about typos in a book because mistakes happen and I get it, but, (i) this is the 8th edition!!!!!!!! and (ii) at one point in reading through the description of TCP, I spent 20 minutes on what I assumed had to be a typo (because the book had developed a reputation in my mind for typos), and only afterwards did I realize that no, this was not a typo, this was just an unintuitive property of TCP.The writing is decent, but the homework exercises often assume knowledge from later in the book. Also, there are simply too many homework exercises, and the only interesting ones (the wireshark labs, for example) also happen to be the only ones not actually in the book – you have to go to a website and sign in to see these.

This book has a nice red label on upper left corner, that says: “Circulation of this Edition outside of the Indian Sub-Continent is Unauthorized”. There are more places where the information provided relates to this fact. So be prepared to get a book with ugly stickers or markings with a black marker covering those signs and labels. The paper is super thin and the print quality is very low. It probably goes without saying that the book is in black and white. This purchase made me pause and think for a minute. By paying 35 euros for a copy of a 3 euro book, not only am I not enjoying reading it, but I am contributing to the absurdity of putting these terrible stickers on the book cover. Also, I didn’t pay the entire team that worked on the content of this book the right amount. I got a crap quality book, the author probably didn’t make anything from this copy, and the character who doesn’t understand a thing about what’s written in this book and can’t even put a sticker on it properly made the most.So thanks, no more Indian copies. From now on, I’m willing to pay x3 the price for quality. And to properly pay the authors for their work.

This wonderful book covers the internet and overall networks with a mind blowing simplicity. No other book I ever found can resume so much in a single place. The authors are highly knowledgeable about the subject, but bring a very well understandable language to anyone wanting to understand about networks. A must read for anyone wanting to understand networks.

This is a very low-quality print – the pages are super thin, the content is misaligned, has print marks across the pages, and not all pages are cut properly. And to add to that, this copy is not allowed to be distributed outside of India, which the seller had hidden with a sticker.
