When New York Times bestselling author Jon Acuff got curious about tapping into his full potential, he launched a research study with Dr. Mike Peasley. They asked more than three thousand people if they felt they were living up to their full potential.
Fifty percent of people reported that 50 percent of their full potential is untapped.
That means half of us are walking around with half-lives. No wonder Twitter is so grumpy.
Imagine if every Christmas you only opened up half your gifts. You could see the rest—a whole pile of them in the corner of the room—but you never got to open them.
Would that make for a happy Christmas, a happy house, a happy job, a happy anything?
It wouldn’t, but what if it didn’t have to be that way?
What if you could have a fulfilling career?
What if you could enjoy a thriving marriage and strong friendships?
What if you could be in the greatest shape of your life?
What if each day felt like a gift and each year progressively got better?
What if you could use a single piece of paper to learn from your past, enjoy your present, and prepare your future?
What if you could escape the Comfort Zone, avoid the Chaos Zone, and live inthe Potential Zone?
That would be the best.
And what if all it takes is a goal?

Jon Acuff’s “All It Takes Is a Goal” is Refreshingly Authentic
Jon Acuff’s “All it Takes is a Goal” is refreshing—it’s authentic, relatable, and incredibly actionable. With an engaging blend of humor, life stories, and insights, Jon explores what it really means to set and achieve your goals, taking readers on a transformative journey that is as entertaining as it is enlightening. One of the standout features of this book is its carefully organized structure. Comprising sections like ‘The List,’ ‘The Zones,’ ‘The Fuel,’ and ‘The Promise,’ each part builds upon the other, offering readers a comprehensive guide to goal-setting. It’s like a roadmap, providing the What, Why, How, and finally, the inspiration to get you to your destination. While every chapter offers value, the chapter “Own More Stories and Fewer Objects” resonated with me. In a world obsessed with material possessions, Jon makes a compelling case, through stories, for why experiences and the stories they bring are the real treasures in life.”All it Takes is a Goal” isn’t just a book; it’s a manual for anyone looking to make meaningful progress in their personal and professional lives. Jon serves as a wise, funny, and incredibly relatable guide through the winding roads of goal-setting and achievement. Your future self will thank you for reading it.

A Fresh Take on Goals – Quick and Actionable Read
When it comes to goals, Jon Acuff is THE #1 GOAL GUY! His new book, All It Takes Is a Goal, is a fresh take on how to actually achieve your goals instead of having them find their way to the goal graveyard. In All It Takes Is a Goal, Jon presents actionable steps to figure out what is important to you and to chase after the things that light you up. He will teach you to narrow your focus with your own Best Moments List and even give you permission to drop goals when you need to. Best of all, he teaches you how to use scorecards and recognize easy, middle, and guaranteed goals so you propel yourself forward and learn to take the wins.I love that this book is so readable and easily read in a weekend! When you read the book or listen to the audiobook, it feels like you are sitting down to grab a coffee with a coach and a friend. You can feel him cheering you on as you work through the exercises. I guarantee you will laugh at his stories, and you will probably shed a tear or two as you create your own Best Moments List – and realize you CAN make your life better. You can achieve your goals – and this book will help you do it.I’ve followed Jon for nearly a decade. I’ve taken his courses, read his books, and used his ideas to move forward in my life. He always over-delivers. Don’t waste time and energy beating yourself up over goal failure. Grab a copy of this book, a pen, and a journal – and get to work! You can achieve more – all it takes is a goal!

Novel approach that makes goal setting a easy process, not a chore.
I loved this book. I made pages and pages of notes and will soon sit down to re-evaluate my current goal structure and create a new one with this easy and fun way to tackle a usually tough topic. Highly recommend! Catch his podcasts, too.

So practical!
I’ve read lots of Jon’s books and my favorite thing is that it’s practical. Early in the book he has an exercise to help you find what motivated you, what makes a good reward. I thought guilt was doing a fine job, but we all know it doesn’t. After the exercise I saw a whole new side of myself and realized I could be kinder to myself AND motivate myself much better!Just a week later I walked my teenagers through the same exercise and we learned so much about each other. Now I know which kid loves rewards that are experiences, which one likes a job well done, which one likes a personal acknowledgement! The rest of the book is great too but this got me fired up and was easy to help others right away. This book really helped me see why I have walked away from so many goals – they weren’t a good fit and I wasn’t willing to do the small things. Running a marathon meant a lot of small goals, things I didn’t enjoy and I didn’t reward myself either. But negotiating real estate deals is fun, has reasonable time frames and it leads to a bigger goal for the year. Awesome!Read this, Atomic Habits, The Six Types of Working Genius, Soundtracks…

Inspirational (but with one big miss)
It’s simultaneously simple and insightful. Full of plain and practical steps toward goal making… what I can’t figure out is why the editors would have given the subtitle of “3-step plan” but never in the book make it very clear what the three steps are. I *think* I know what they are, but in the end, it doesn’t really matter—the more than three steps Acuff gives are easy and inspiring enough that I started right away.

Get stuff done!
I know… “another book about goals.” This book demystifies the process of creating and then crushing goals that really matter. Jon’s style of communicating is easy to follow and the concepts are super practical. The pathway of moving through your Best Moments List then considering Performance Zones builds powerful momentum that matters this week. The concept of picking the Game you want to win is so helpful because we often feel like we have to work on a bunch of big goals all at once. Using a relevant Scorecard puts us in charge of what winning looks like. Reading and applying these concepts will help executives, young leaders, homeschool parents and everyone in between reach their full potential, regardless of their sphere of influence. “In order to fulfill your potential you must first create a detailed, compelling, long-reaching vision for your life.” John Acuff’s book, All It Takes Is A Goal, sets you on a pathway that turns your potential into confident reality.

In “All it takes is a Goal” Jon Acuff provides practical and kind advice on how to set and achieve goals. His simple and manageable tactics include looking back on your best moments in life in order to get clear on what matters, and building from “Easy Goals” to “Middle Goals” to “Guaranteed Goals”. Better still, these frameworks can be applied across all the arenas of life. If you feel frustrated that you’re not attaining your full potential, this is a great way to get unstuck!

I love this book so much. Great if you have goals you want to tackle but also great if you don’t even have goals but need help making some. I listened to the audiobook and loved it so much I needed to buy the physical copy and read it again
