Good as a refresher, probably good as a guide while going through Chemistry
I’ve taken up to Organic Chem at a university, but have forgotten a lot of chemistry in the past several years. Wanted to go back to the basics as a refresher and this book is simple to read and understand, and is bringing back a lot of that forgotten knowledge I thought I lost. For the things I might’ve not quite understood, this is simplifying those parts of Chemistry.

Great book, also covers quantum mechanics for modern chemistry classes
I saw a few people comment on here that were not happy with quantum mechanics being in the book, even a high school chemistry teacher said this. But it appears that today, at least in college level chemistry, they tend to include at least an entire chapter on quantum mechanics in a general chemistry course, which would be why it was covered in the newer edition of this book. So I give it 5 stars because all topics in the book were covered pretty well and summarized nicely. If you don’t like the quantum mechanics part and don’t need to know it for your class, then just don’t read that part. But don’t give the author a bad review for “diverging” into quantum mechanics because that is the way it is taught today.

A good supplement to classroom and textbook resources
My kid’s high school no longer issues take-home textbooks; the physical books stay in class, and students have access to an online version. It’s pretty frustrating to use an online textbook for homework or studying, and classroom notes only go so far. This isn’t as complete as a real textbook and doesn’t cover things as comprehensively as a beginner might need, but it’s a decent addendum to other learning resources. This book handled all 3 of my concerns: first, it gives my kid an opportunity to see chemistry concepts and problems explained in a different way than what he got in school; second, it’s an easy-to use reference for homework; and last, it serves as a refresher for me (his reluctant tutor who learned Chemistry many years ago). I’ve used other “Dummies” books in the past, and found them all decent in covering their subjects, same for this edition.

Not “very good”
Bought it as “used very good” but the pages are yellowed and the cover has stains on it. It’s useable but not what I was expecting for “very good”.

Certainly not aimed for dummies, it’s a pretty daunting read.
