From a newbie perspective , thank you seeing where things may need improvements.
As a rookie developer and newbie, What is interesting is that it addresses some things in web page activity that I had not yet identified as problem issues but when I look at it , it actually is and I have the tool to fix that in this book. I actually used the flexbox grid feature in a project I was doing and struggled with it per the 4th edition and the CSS class I took. I ended up going to Bootstrap to make things behave and then modified the CSS within that. I can appreciate the updates you have brought forth. I love the updated method of coding the scroll-linked animation… It seems we should have thought of this before as it is so simple now. I hope to learn to view things as you do in order to see where improvements can be and should be made or simplified.Thank you for your efforts and I will share this with my team and colleagues. Thank you for bringing AI into this realm as well.

Finally, CSS makes sense
I’ve been struggling through CSS on my own frontend projects for quite some time, and honestly, it can be frustrating. I normally rely on my own base knowledge and a little AI to get me throught but I’ve been wanting to learn it for myself. This book, so far, has been a game changer for me–even in just the first chapter. What really works for me is the author’s writing style – it’s conversational and easy to follow, and not like reading a dense, stale textbook. I was actually learning useful stuff within the first few pages, which is rare for tech books because they spend a long time with preamble and the history and blah blah blah.If you’ve been feeling foggy about CSS concepts like I was, Ben does a great job clearing things up. He knows how to break things down without talking over your head. You’ll definitely need some base knowledge because this is NOT a CSS book!!! It’s a Responsive web design book. So if you’ve been at it a few years, you’ll be able to keep up for sure.Definitely recommend if you’re looking to level up your responsive design skills without the headache.

An excellent resource for Web designers at any level
In the fifth edition of “Responsive Web Design with HTML5 and CSS,” Ben Frain methodically introduces one HTML element and CSS technique at a time, moving from basic page creation to complex layouts beyond what a typical developer will need. The book covers current Web design standards with a concern for immediate browser and device compatibility, but it also glances at new capabilities that might be implemented in the future. Frain’s writing style is conversational and humorous, and along with straightforward descriptions of coding methods, he also offers practical advice (based on his own experience) on the easiest way to get the results you want. This book is accompanied by a large code repository of downloadable files (HTML, CSS, JavaScript, images and videos) organized into folders that correspond to each chapter. These files allow readers to create examples seen on the page, and also experiment with their own variations. By following the guidelines in this book, your Web site will be usable on a wide variety of browsers and devices. It’s an excellent resource for Web designers at any level.

Fun way to learn HTML and CSS…
I have the previous version as well as the updated version of this book. The previous was great and takes you step-by-step through learning HTML and CSS and builds your knowledge as you go. Very accessible and easy to follow. Ben did an amazing job putting it together in great detail and depth. I didn’t;t really feel like the previous version was missing anything until I received this one and got to go through the new updated version. Everything that was there before plus everything you need to bring you into 2026.I will also add that I love Packt Publishing. I really like how you can get the paperback version and they will also send you a PDF version of the book. The paperback is great to have so you can grab it for reference and quickly look something up. I put the PDF on my kindle so I always have it with me and it is more convenient to read.Great work by both Ben and Packt. Great book and resource!

Ben Frain: the guru guiding me into the next generation of HTML5 and CSS
I designed several web presences in the 90’s using HTML4. When I realized that the sites looked ridiculous on mobile devices, I found Ben Frain’s Responsive Web Design with HTML5 and CSS. I became a follower with the fourth edition, and now this latest fifth edition is keeping me on top of the ever-developing world of web design. Viewport is my friend! I never imagined it could be so easy to create CSS grids and Flexbox for seamless layouts; animations, transitions and the other numerous features explained in the book including hands-on practice samples and links to reference material. Not to mention Ben’s easy style of presentation, breaking things down and explaining them. The book comes with a PDF version which is helpful while working as it includes links to all the reference material as you need them.

Great update.
I got an early access copy of this book from PACKT. So far, I am impressed. I used the previous version to supplement my studies when learning some web development. This new version is still an even better supplement because it is up to I have to cross-reference with other resources less! Giving it four stars since I still have a couple chapters left!

This is THE BOOK that you want and need. (newest version)
If you want to learn HTML and CSS in a very easy to understand format THIS IS THE BEST BOOK to accomplish that goal. Every aspect is broken down so simply that you would have to intentionally not want to understand. It covers everything in detail and the pace is perfect. Other books start off nice and smooth and for some reason when you turn a few pages you are trying to figure out solutions as if you had been doing it for many years. This book is not like that at all. Do yourself a favor and by it today.
