Our mission: to make math a fun part of kids’ everyday lives.
We all know it’s wonderful to read bedtime stories to kids, but what about doing math? Many generations of Americans are uncomfortable with math and numbers, and too often we hear the phrase, “I’m just not good at math!” For decades, this attitude has trickled down from parents to their kids, and we now have a culture that finds math dry, intimidating, and just not cool.
Bedtime Math wants to change all that. Inside this book, families will find fun, mischief-making math problems to tackle―math that isn’t just kid-friendly, but actually kid-appealing. With over 100 math riddles on topics from jalapeños and submarines to roller coasters and flamingos, this book bursts with math that looks nothing like school. And with three different levels of challenge (wee ones, little kids, and big kids), there’s something for everyone. We can make numbers fun, and change the world, one Bedtime Math puzzle at a time.

Perfect for homeschooling or supplementing school
I homeschool my 6yr old kindergartener and she’s really good and enjoys everything but math. Ive had this for 1 day and already were on chapter 4 because she just doesn’t want to put it down! She loves the stories and solving the little math problems. The math questions have something for the littlest kids to the bigger ones. So we will get more than one use out of it as time goes on. I will definitely be purchasing the rest of the series!

“EDUCATIONAL, FASCINATING, AND FUN-FILLED!”
Laura Overdeck delivers an exciting, fun-filled book for children to practice math skills. There are 86 pages of delightful topics, each topic is another math-solving problem. Some of the topics include: Eggstreme Mess; Playing Ketchup; Weather Or Not; Say Cheese; and several more. The stunning, colorful illustrations are funny, and inspire children to read. In addition, the author provides 3 challenges: WEE ONES,LITTLE KIDS, and BIG KIDS. The last page is a chart, providing the answers to all the math problems. Also, on each page, the answer is provided upside-down. It is found next to the page number, so that you are forced to turn the book upside-down to read the answer, after solving the math problem. An example of WEE ONES: If you throw 9 strands of angel hair pasta at the wall, but only 2 stick to it, how many end up on the floor? The questions become more-and-more challenging for LITTLE KIDS, and BIG KIDS. Laura Overdeck creates fun-filled games that interest children, such as skateboarding, games about water, jumping games and much more. The illustrations add additional entertainment, while the child is learning math skills. I wish this book was published when my children were young, because it inspires the child as they read-and-solve math problems. The illustrations are funny as they encourage thought-provoking math practice skills. This delightful book is educational, and a great way to practice math. Every colorful page provides a new math problem, along with illustrations. This is one of the most encouraging books for children to learn math that I have seen, and I will share it family and friends, who have young children. This fascinating book is a very good excuse indeed, when your child stays up late. Entertaining, educational, and inspiring. Highly recommended!

Math made Fun, Fun, Fun
The author and her husband came up with an innovative and simple idea of how to get their own children interested in math without boring routine memorization and the ubiquitous FLASH CARDS, by making the learning experience games about some gross and exciting things that all younger children will enjoy. Younger kids, at say four years will have some problems with a few of the concepts, but not all, while a few very select 3yo may understand many of the problems. I would say the book is more suited to those kids 5 and up, but parental persistent in playing these math quiz games will make much of the difference in how each child does.To avoid the stigma attached to the degree of difficulty with each set of problems, the author used the terms “WEE ONES’, “LITTLE KIDS”, AND “BIG KIDS’ rather than easy, average, and hard/difficult, especially since what may be easy one child of a particular age, can be quite difficult for another. The book is divided into five major sections/chapters with problems geared to the overall topic formulated in each. The main chapters were:1. Exploding Food – my favorite and one that most kids will love2. Wild Pets – another of my favorites3. Extreme Vehicles4. Sports You Shouldn’t Try – this should be strictly adhered to by parents/grandparents going over the problems discussed in this chapter5. Really Odd JobsLet us not forget to give credit to the illustrator for his great renderings of each subject discussed. They were cute to say the least.Overall an enjoyable book to help your youngster gain math skills without seemingly like that is what you are doing.Great job for both the author and illustrator.

Great addition to a 4 year old’s bedtime routine
I purchased this book for my 4 year old daughter. Each night we do a “math question” from the Bedtime Math book (sometimes she wants to do two). We always read a few story books so its great to include math in such a relaxed, no pressure way. My daughter found the accompanying stories and cartoon drawings funny. I really like how it shows the fun side of math.My plan is to go through the book using the “Wee Ones” level. Then go through the book all over again with the two higher skill levels. She’s already excited to read through the book again!I am a regular user of the Bedtime Match website but the book is such a great way to incorporate math into that bedtime story routine.Update: My daughter is now 5 and has gone through the 2nd level (Little Kids) of Bedtime math “stories.” We started using 20 or so of the smaller building bricks (similar to the Duplo brand) to help visualize the numbers. She still wants to go through some kind of match story almost every night. Luckily the Bedtime Math website is updated regularly. Hopefully, a second book volume will be released!

Not just for Bedtime!
Bedtime Math was released just in time for school vacation! Perfect way to keep math skills sharp in the lazy days of summer (or winter or fall or spring for that matter). This book is not just for bedtime, it’s great for car rides, the pool, beach or whenever the mood strikes. As a family that regularly devours the email math problems, we were excited to get the book too. Each topic is presented in a fun and kind of wacky way that makes kids want to listen and learn. The math problems follow so naturally that kids don’t even realize it’s math, the feeling is just a more involved part of the funny story.Thank you Laura for writing this book, creating the concept and making math fun! Our kids give you extra credit for the glow in the dark cover – very cool when the lights are out!

My son has never been a fan of maths but has really enjoyed doing a maths puzzle a day.my only criticism would be it is very american, weights in pounds, measurements in feet, sometimes you need to translate to language your child recognises.Over all a great fun maths book!

I gave this book as a christmas gift to my 5 year old. She really likes it. Most of the nights, she chooses this book to read.It was a bit frustrating in the begining as it took some time for her to start understanding how the book works. Now she keeps a paper and a crayon to take notes. In the end, she usually gets the correct answer. It is also helping her in reading comprehension. I suspect that reading comprehension was the issue in the begining not the maths.Sometimes I am not so sure about the stories if I like them, or not. But I guess they are written from kids perspective and my daughter has no trouble understanding them.Overall, a great book to make maths fun, improve reading comprehension, and above all, something different to read other than princess stories!!
