The Best Xbox/Switch Layout Controller Currently on the Market
After using it for about 6 months, I can safely say that the Ultimate 2 is the best controller currently available that is in an Xbox/Switch joystick configuration. That said, there are a couple areas for improvement that I want to highlight and comparisons I want to make. Overall, for $70 it handily beats controllers that are much more expensive and even the first party ones.First I want to compare it to the Ultimate 1 for returning people. If you haven’t upgraded yet, DO IT. I imagine a lot of the 4.3 overall score comes from the old one as that had many more issues, but almost all of them have been fixed. The bumpers are MUCH better, the D-pad is significantly improved, and the new features such as the extra bumper buttons and trigger stops are great. If you have the Ultimate 1 and are wondering whether this is a worthwhile upgrade, it 100% is.From here I want to highlight each of the areas of the controller in a rapid fire list• The sticks are TMR and some of the best in the market. I still think there could be improvements to the mechanicals (smoothness, snapback, longevity, etc.) but the sensors are essentially perfect.• The D-pad is now tied with the best in the market. It has an extremely tactile feel and ghost inputs (up/down registering when left/right is pressed and vice versa) are possible, but easy to notice. However, if you want something more D-pad focused, get their Pro3 instead which is my number 1 recommendation in that regard.• The bumpers are perfect, literally nothing to say. The triggers are also great, and the new trigger stops work well and use a tactile button instead of just limiting the range. However, there is a slight gap in the mechanicals that makes them feel kinda off. I actually opened mine up and filled in that gap with electrical tape and it feels WAY better but it’s something to note.• The back buttons are super comfortable in my opinion and feel great to use. It might be nice to have 4 in the future, but there’s a tradeoff for clutter. The new extra bumper buttons are absolutely amazing and something I didn’t know I needed. We are finally getting enough inputs in these locations so keeping thumbs on the sticks is actually possible.• The face buttons are… good. Nothing remarkable about them as they are membrane pad based so exactly what you’re used to in almost every other controller.• The software/features are good and easy to use. Setting up profiles and reassigning the extra buttons or using turbo on the fly is extremely simple. However, I really wish that the software allowed for assignments outside its own buttons such as mouse click or keyboard presses. This is probably the biggest downside of the controller and means that the extra buttons can’t ever actually be EXTRA and only repeat buttons which is extremely limiting.• The dock is quite handy and something I can’t imagine living without now. It’s still easy to take the dongle with you on the fly, but for a home setup, the dock is amazing. Never once had a connection issue with it either. In the end, the Ultimate 2 gets my #1 recommendation with what is currently available and I have been through A LOT of controllers. The button assignment limitations are a disappointment and some of the mechanicals could be improved, but I’m running out of things to suggest. If you want a PlayStation layout, I’d recommend their Pro3 over this. However, I’d also recommend checking out the GameSir Tarantula Pro which is different enough to warrant its own purchase and is my current favorite PlayStation layout controller.

Great feeling TMR sticks and charging dock
I purchased this for $60 half a year ago to use on Steam and my Nintendo Switch. Definately a upgrade from the standard Switch Pro controllerPros-Charging dock is great. It doubles as a pass-through for the 2.5Ghz dongle so you never have to worry about it or take up another usb port.-Excellent stick feel. These TMR magnetic sticks feel very smooth with no hitches, unlike my Switch Pro controller where both sticks had a slight but noticable hitch when moving them from neutral.-Profile switching button. Let’s you swap profiles on the fly for the programmable buttons.-Subtle ambient lighting on the base of the dock is a nice touch.Cons-Software isn’t polished. It works, but the UI is basic and I’ve had my profiles disappear multiple times.Hardware is excellent and the feel is a huge improvement over the standard Switch Pro controller. If you like the Switch Pro layout I don’t see a reason to buy Nintendo’s offical controller when 8BitDo creates a better product with better technology for just about the same price.

Ultimate 2 Bluetooth Controller Drifts Left
I purchased and received an 8Bitdo Ultimate 2 Bluetooth Controller. After connecting it via Bluetooth to my recently purchased Nintendo Switch 2, I started the bundled Mario Kart World game to test out this brand new controller I was excited to now own. Unfortunately, and to my surprise, the controller is defective.Specifically, without touching any of the controls (and with both joysticks appearing to be vertically centered and neutral), my vehicle in Mario Kart World would drift seriously to the left. In order to make the vehicle drive straight ahead, it required moving the left joystick to the right about half way between center position and full right deflection.I ended up stopping the game and powering down the Switch 2 completely. After a few minutes, I restarted the Switch 2, restarted and reconnected the controller, and restarted Mario Kart World. The controller yielded the same result – serious drift to the left without touching the joysticks or any other controls. I opted to return this defective controller to Amazon (rather than contacting 8Bitdo to try and troubleshoot and/or replace the controller through them).I believe it is a reasonable expectation for any company to implement a robust quality control function within their organization, and to ensure that all products leaving their facility have been checked to confirm they are defect-free. Unfortunately, in my first experience purchasing an 8Bitdo product, their quality control function failed as the controller ended up being unusable. I won’t be purchasing another product from this company, and as reluctant as I am in giving such a negative review, I cannot recommend this company if one’s expectation is to receive a high quality product that has been checked for defects before being shipped out to Amazon.Up until this point in my review, I’ve been silent on the joy-killing experience this has ended up becoming. I was eagerly looking forward to receiving the controller after conducting several hours of research online leading up to my purchase. Then, when the controller was delivered, it almost felt like Christmas when I was much younger. A big smile on my face and me thinking about how much more I would likely enjoy my Switch 2 using this controller. Well, all of that joy got abruptly and indelibly robbed from me when I found out my new “toy” was broken. If a representative from 8Bitdo is reading this, I would suggest to you to take heed regarding my words. Your company not only shipped a defective product, but it also robbed me of the joy I had in anticipation of using your product. Please keep in mind – you are selling products that are intended to be used for fun, perhaps for relaxation, perhaps for socializing and competing with other gamers, and yes, even perhaps to seek out some minute amount of joy to help counteract all of the societal pressures and challenges we are all forced to deal with on a daily basis. We are spending our hard earned money on an activity that is not required, but rather desired. And because I have chosen gaming to spend what disposable income I have on a hobby that I find joy-producing, I do not think it is unreasonable for a company such as yours to keep these things in mind when deciding how to run your organization, and more importantly, how to earn and keep customer goodwill. No one, myself included, wants to deal with contacting you regarding a defective product, troubleshooting a defective product (and wasting my time in the process), shipping my defective product back to you, then waiting for a replacement product to show up at my door. Having to jump through all of these hoops is joy-killing for an activity that is intended to be fun.If your quality control function was robust to begin with, I wouldn’t be here typing out this lengthy review to warn others about my experience. And just in case this needs to be said, a robust quality control function does not mean shipping out defective products and letting your customers discover them for you (and subsequently wasting our time trying to deal with the fallout). No. A robust quality control function should be invisible to your customers. You find the product defects internally within your organization, sequester them, and only ship out fully functional products. If you had done that, I would be very happy right now, I would not have returned my controller to Amazon, and I wouldn’t be here typing up this review. In my case, however, you failed. Miserably. You’ve lost me as a customer permanently, and as such, I will be looking elsewhere to purchase a third-party controller for my Switch 2 (as well as to satisfy future controller needs). For fellow gamers who have taken the time to read through this review, thank you. May I suggest to all of you that we need to keep companies like 8Bitdo accountable. Tolerating businesses with flawed quality practices is never acceptable. Let us all keep that in mind as we each make decisions regarding which companies we decide to grace with our time and money.

TLDR – Probably the best controller I have used that is compatible with both PC and Nintendo Switch 1/2.After my third Xbox elite series 2 failed, I decided to give this controller a try and for half the price I am so glad I did (£59.99 at the time of review).Pros -+ Thumb sticks feel just like the elite (I use the elite with the tightest setting and these feel very similar).+ 4 extra programmable buttons in convenient places (no stretching your fingers to press them).+ Battery life is great (around 15-20 hours depending on RGB usage).+ Comes with the 2.4G adapter for PC.+ Trigger stops that don’t just block the trigger travel it actually turns them into ‘clicky’ style button triggers.+ Works on Switch 1/2 wireless with motion control (over bluetooth without a dongle).+ 3 onboard profile slots you can switch between.+ Comes with a charging dock (The 2.4G dongle is stored in the bottom of this).Con — Thumb stick tension isn’t adjustable like it is on the Xbox elite.Things worth knowing -* It is slightly smaller than the Xbox elite controller (this wasn’t an issue for me but worth pointing out for those with larger hands).* You need to update the firmware using the 8BitDo Ultimate Software V2 to be able to use it on the Switch 2.* The manual on the 8bitdo website offers a lot more information than the little booklet provided in the box.

Fantastic controller. This is a premium controller , which is cheaper than the official pro controller. It has everything, TMR analogue sticks, which are the market leaders and have no sticker drift! You can change the triggers from analogue to single click. It has the back buttons and it has extra bumper buttons at the top. All are mappable. I live the rgb rings around the analogue sticks which you can modify to suit. The software to make all of these changes is very easy to use and is downloaded from the 8bitdo website. Also, ignore the reviewers that say the controller is fiddly to connect to the switch. That’s a load of rubbish. You pair it exactly the same way you would any other controller for the first time on the switch and then that’s it. The switch remembers the controller and that’s it. The only thing that this controller doesn’t do is wake up the switch using the home button. Unless you’re really lazy and you can’t press the on button on the switch before you sit down to play then this really isn’t an issue.I can’t praise this controller enough. It really isn’t a premium controller but at a fraction of the price of other controllers that do the same thing. It is also not the ticking time bomb the official controller is in regards to stick drift.
