Hands-On Learning That Actually Explains the “Why”
Awesome Science Experiments for Kids: 100+ Fun STEM / STEAM Projects and Why They Work delivers exactly what it promises—engaging, hands-on experiments paired with clear explanations of the science behind them. What sets this book apart from many experiment collections is the focus on the “why.” It’s not just a list of fun activities; each project includes an explanation that breaks down the scientific principles in a way kids can actually understand. That makes it especially valuable for parents and homeschoolers who want more than just entertainment—they want real learning. The experiments use mostly accessible household materials, which is a huge plus. The instructions are clearly written, and the layout makes it easy to follow along without confusion. Projects range across different scientific disciplines, including chemistry, physics, and simple engineering concepts, giving kids broad exposure to STEM/STEAM topics. Some experiments will require light supervision, depending on the child’s age, but nothing felt overly complicated or impractical. The variety keeps things interesting, and there are enough projects here to provide long-term value rather than a one-week novelty.Overall, this is a well-rounded, thoughtfully structured science activity book that encourages curiosity and critical thinking. It’s a strong five-star pick for families looking to make science interactive and enjoyable.

Awesome Book with Tons of Practical Experiments
This book is awesome! It’s thick with tons of experiments! The resources needed seem super accessible and the projects are short enough and simple enough to be super fun and exciting without being tedious or requiring a ton of extra prep. My son are very excited when we do an experiment. Someone pointed out the explanations are a little advanced for younger kids, which is true, but they definitely do a great job of at least explaining how and why the experiment worked. And it’s easy enough to leave out the more minute details for younger kids or translate them into easier to understand terms.Update: This book works best, in my opinion, if you make a little materials kit. I went through a good portion of the book and made a list of the materials that are on the cheaper side and would work for a good amount of the experiments. Along with basic kitchen essentials, like measuring spoons and cups, here’s the list I made for myself:Corn starchFood coloringcheap Vegetable oilBalloonsPaper strawsPlastic bendy strawsPing pong ballsPom pomsZiploc bagsWooden craft sticksEpsom saltPaper cupsBaking sodaVinegarAlka Seltzer (more expensive, but needed for some of the more exciting ones!)saved Toilet paper rollsI personally haven’t bought every single thing on this list and there are still a ton of experiments we’re able to do in this book!

Super fun- beats screen time!
Simple and clear instructions. My daughter can follow these without much assistance and they keep her busy for such a long time. The spiral binding is great too

Great Book for STEAM Activities!
This is an excellent book to use in the classroom!!! So many schools do not have science in the classroom anymore, so this book offers great ideas! Many could be used for a fun Friday or rewards.

This is the first time I received a book that was squeezed and bent to fit a smaller box. Cannot be a gift, can only keep for own use as book is slightly damaged and looked worn out. Disappointed.Yet to browse the content

Well explained, easy to follow. Every experiment is broken down into difficulty, duration, detailed steps + material and of course the explanation (how and why). Some of the projects are more age dependent than others. So maybe check ahead of time which one fits your needs and your child’s. Would highly recommend it.

My 8 yr old grandson loves science and doing experiments and this book is full of easy and quick examples, all using things that are available at home or are inexpensive to buy. We had a lot of success and one or two that failed but we’re going to try those ones again. I would recommend this book for anyone with 7 – 12 yr olds who like doing experiments.
