This is the one
I saw another “Coding for kids – Python” book that had more number of reviews than this one. After comparing the descriptions of both, decided to go with this one because it seemed to have a more “hands on” approach than the other one, and I’m so glad I did. My 9yo absolutely loves it! I only gave him a few pointers and he’s flying through the book really enjoying (and learning) as he builds games and graphics. He’s had literally hundreds of all types of books and he said this one is his favorite. I appreciate that the book shows flow charts. Learning a computer language doesn’t make you a programmer or doesn’t mean you’re learning how to write good code, but I feel this book introduces good practices towards that goal.

But this one before you buy the coding games in python
I bought this book second but wish I had bought it first. Lots of fun little projects that expand on each other. Lessons are simple and easy to follow along. I like that at the end it makes some suggestions with nice hints to expand on what you just did.

Used to write without any previous knowledge
I have used this book to write two minor programs for work with no prior programming knowledge. I wrote one to calculate how many bars of rebar I’ll need for concrete slab and one that I can use for bidding insulation jobs.

Easy to understand
I just received this and haven’t had a chance to read too much of it. But I scanned the book and it seems to be well written for someone that is a beginner. Can’t wait to start learning.

Excellent book to teach kids to code
I have tutored a 10 year old and an 11 year old with this book with amazing success. The material is example based and the colors and jokes keep the kids engaged. If you’re looking to get anyone around the 9-12 age group started with coding “for real” (i.e., a step above Scratch), this is the book to get.

Okay, I was wrong…
So far, the first animal quiz does not work. Copied exactly as the book shows. Anyone else have problems with this or other programs in this book?*Updated review: I like it, but I am not experienced with python at all. I had no one to ask questions and was grateful that they included the website to download programs which is where I also was able to look up FAQs. This helped, but my daughters were able to find the solution in the book faster. I take it back, this book is definitely worth it. Indentions are more important than I thought. ;)Good luck to all other moms and dads trying to encourage their kids to learn something new and useful. If you get stuck, as the kids for help 😀

Very good for ten-twelve year-old who is inquisitive and likes computers. He will need a laptop with Python 3 and an IDE loaded.
