Fast, reliable, and built for creatives.
As a graphic designer working on both a Mac Mini M4 and MacBook Air M1, I’m constantly juggling large project files, from brand assets and RAW images to video renders. After a week of using the Crucial X10 4TB Portable SSD, I can confidently say it’s an excellent performer. The speed is the first thing you notice. File transfers are incredibly fast, whether I’m moving large Photoshop folders or backing up client projects. Even when connected via USB-C on both Macs, the drive maintains consistent performance with no lag or connection drops. The build quality feels solid yet lightweight, the blue finish gives it a professional yet stylish look that stands out on the desk. It’s compact enough to slip into a laptop sleeve without any bulk, making it perfect for on-the-go work sessions or traveling between client meetings. In just a week, it’s already become a core part of my workflow; fast, reliable, and perfectly suited to the Apple ecosystem. For designers or creative professionals who value both speed and portability, the Crucial X10 is a smart investment.

Tiny and packs a wallop!
EDIT July 18, 2025: There is no support for USB 3.2 Gen 2×2 on Apple Computers. Windows, etc. yes. Apple’s specifications for their Mac models, including those with Thunderbolt 3, Thunderbolt 4, and even the newer M-series chips (M1, M2, M3, M4), typically list support for USB 3.1 Gen 2 (up to 10Gbps) and Thunderbolt/USB4 (up to 40Gbps; or higher with Thunderbolt 5). USB 3.2 Gen 2×2, which offers 20Gbps, is largely absent from their official specifications. Apple favored Thunderbolt.EDIT July 11, 2025: I still have high praise for the Crucial SSD external drive. My whole computer network and all attached drives are running cooler and faster. Although all drives [1 internal (the Fusion Drive) and 3 external (including the Crucial SSD)] are connected into the iMac motherboard, the Crucial external SSD is running macOS Sequoia [my boot drive] while the other two external drives [rotational] are being run by macOS Ventura. The synergy between all the drives is all that I could have hoped for. When I get a new iMac [maybe 2027 😂], i’m going to utilize the Crucial, which should then be able to approach its full potential of 2,100Mbp/s. Because my 2017 iMac motherboard is only specified for 1,000Mbp/s, the Crucial 2TB SSD has a lot of capacity left to achieve in an updated motherboard.ORIGINAL REVIEW June 27, 2025: I have a 2017 iMac [18,2], which has the dreaded Fusion Drive. I have never hated the 1TB internal Fusion Drive, even now after such a polarizing contrast with the Crucial 2TB external SSD Drive. I still like it, however the comparison is like a night and day difference. The Crucial SSD Drive does everything smoother, more efficiently, and FASTER.I’m still using the iMac Fusion Drive running macOS Ventura, but only as a fallback macOS due to the fact that I’m using Open Core Legacy Patcher [OCLP] on the Crucial SSD running macOS Sequoia. Thus, I boot from the SSD Drive 10-times faster with practically no fan noises or heat issues. And all my apps run perfectly.I wish I had done this sooner.

Fast and easy transfer from phone to SSD
Product is unreal! My goal was to transfer my phone videos and photos to this drive by using my PC. It was projecting 1 hour just to move one folder. I decided to try and connect the crucial SSD directly to my galaxy through the usb-c wire included with the SDD. I was able to transfer 400+GB of files to the SSD in about 20 minutes. It was seamless and had no issues. Typical speed ranged from 350MB/s to 400MB/s.

Solid..solid state drive
Tiny size (like a thick-ish credit card), tiny cable (like a micro pipi) but big 8tb ssd and is speedy (not too quick, speedy). No hard issues with use and is plug and play while silent in operation. Very light warmness but feels plasticky, yet sturdy. Overall, a decent initial impression (will update if drive has/shows issues, otherwise 5 stars…so far). Vinaka from Fiji.

Perfect for editing on the go
The Crucial X10 4TB Portable SSD has been awesome for my workflow. I use it to edit video and photos directly off the drive, and it’s fast, reliable, and super easy to take anywhere. The 4TB of space gives me plenty of room for weddings and engagement sessions without worrying about running out. Definitely a must-have for any photographer or videographer on the move.

Works nice
So far it works great, would buy it again. Easy installed, no noise, nice and small, so far I can’t say it gets really hot.

How is this so small and so fast and so big and so cheap?
Compared to the many Samsung T7’s I’ve gone through, this is much smaller, lighter, faster, and cheaper.Because it’s so small, I was able to just stick it to the back of my macbook as an always-connected drive for editing footage and it has been great. It is far worse than something like the internal macbook drive in terms of iops, but I’m not using it as a cache so it’s mostly reading and it’s what it’s reading are massive video files. For this purpose, it is plenty fast. No lag scrubbing in premiere timelines, etc. I’ve had it for about a month now and had no issues whatsoever.Cons:– I’m on a Mac so I can only test up to 10Gbps, but it maxes out read and write. This is Apple’s bad, but it means I can’t really stress-test the thermals (the possible downside of a tiny plastic enclosure).– This is the first Crucial-branded drive I’ve owned. Looking up the warranty, it simply states that the drive is indeed “under warranty”. Every other brand shows me to the day when my warranty will run out. I really don’t like not having the piece of mind from being able to confirm the stated 3 year warranty. If your needs are similar to mine, this thing is a perfect fit. The easiest way to add 8TB of fast, portable storage to your setup.
