Cybersecurity for Beginners: A Hands-On Guide to Ethical Hacking and Defense: Master Real-World Skills Through Labs, Tools, and Practical Challenges

Definitely a great source of knowledge for beginners!
The one thing I loved about this book as I went through it initially was the easy to understand, hands on training guides. Explanations with examples were easy to relate to and understand. I would 100% recommend it if you are just getting into cyber security. The other thing I like is the section that talks about the different paths forward in this field. It is explained so well and clearly which I didn’t realize I was looking until I neared the end and voila, there it was, all the cyber security roles and paths and how to pursue them. I would encourage anyone who buys the book to read through that section specifically!

Finally—a cybersecurity book that speaks my language!
This book makes learning cybersecurity feel approachable, even fun. I appreciated how it started with the basics and gradually introduced more advanced topics without ever making me feel lost. The real-world examples and step-by-step labs made everything click. You can tell the author really understands what beginners need. It’s not just theory—this book actually helps you build skills. Definitely worth it if you’re serious about learning ethical hacking the right way.

Great Book
I found this book incredibly helpful. It explains complicated topics in simple language without making you feel overwhelmed. The hands-on exercises really set it apart—you actually get to practice what you learn. If you’re just starting out and want something practical and easy to follow, this book is a fantastic choice.

Excellent
Great, great, great book.If you’ve read titles like Extreme Privacy and watch YT channels by David Bombal this book is right up your alley. I dug into it right away and had Kali up and running and doing through some of the labs in the book. They were easy to follow and super fun to practice, ethically of course. The book is well formatted, super easy to follow, and you can tell the author really put a lot of thought into it which I greatly appreciated.A lot of people don’t think about cybersecurity until *after* an event happens. This reminds me of an old question…when’s the best time to plant a tree? 20 years ago. When’s the second best time? Now.In today’s day and age it’s way better if you and your friends and family are ready “before” a potential hack, or other event, is targeted your direction. This book will get you knowledgeable and up to speed so you can sleep easier at night, knowing you’re taking the right steps to keep yourself safe.We spend over 60% of our time online these days, so just like a home with good locks and possibly a security system, you want to protect your investment whether it’s away from the keyboard or at it. This will help you with both, because online is the new “real life.”

Readable, Detailed, Powerful
Wow. This book blew me away. The author is clearly both a deep technical expert but also someone who can communicate extremely effectively. I read this at the beach and found it readable, educational and a nice playbook of sort for how to get further into the cybersecurity space. I came into this topic with minimum knowledge other than John McAfee’s early work; but left feel very informed and inspired. The ending was really powerful and to me summed up what the essence of this book is about: “Cybersecurity isn’t just a skill—it’s a mindset, a constant game of staying one step ahead. From breaking into test environments in your home lab to understanding real-world breaches, you’ve now got the foundation to think like an attacker and defend like a pro. But this is just the beginning.” Would recommend.

A Must-Read for Aspiring Ethical Hackers!
Cybersecurity for Beginners is exactly what the title promises—and more. This book takes the often-intimidating world of ethical hacking and breaks it down into bite-sized, practical, and genuinely fun chunks. Whether you’re a student, a curious techie, or someone considering a cybersecurity career, this book offers real-world context, hands-on labs, and a clear roadmap to getting started. What I loved most is how approachable the tone is. The author doesn’t just explain concepts—he guides you through them like a friend, adding personal stories, humor, and even real-life case studies like WannaCry and SolarWinds. The labs are well-structured and require no fancy gear, just a willingness to learn.Highly recommend it if you want to build a solid foundation in cybersecurity while actually doing the work, not just reading about it.

Cybersecurity Matters!
I thought the book was an intriguing read into the world of cyber. It covers the gamut from beginners to IT professionals. I particularly liked reading about real-world case studies and how important proper defense is. This definitely gives you insight into a world that most of us aren’t comfortable with.
