Another simple and impactful message
Jon Gordon has been a favorite author of mine for years. I read The Energy Bus about 15 years ago for the first time. In 2022, I had the opportunity to see him speak in person at an event. Hearing that, I re-read The Energy Bus the night before the event.Since then, I have read nearly every Jon Gordon book. With each book, I am reminded about his simple message of leadership and focus on the basics. This book is no different. It is a quick read for any team looking to improve trust and unity.

Insightful and helpful strategy for communication
I had several a-ha moments while reading this book, told in narrative form. It was entertaining and a fast read but so insightful! Although I am in educational leadership and the scenario revolves around a business situation, it is still applicable to communicating effectively for team growth and success. I will definitely share this strategy with my team and use it moving forward.

Short, but powerful
This short book is power packed with great suggestions of how to approach potential conflict with confidence and greater ease. Highly recommended.

Key points could be summarized on two pages.
This book has value. The storybook fashion does work for some, but the total concept could be summarized on two pages. This book did help me a lot for a group presentation and I covered everything on a total of 4-5 powerpoint slides. I do recommend it. But the storybook/acronym scenario is getting old as it seems to be the way to create a book to communicate just a few key concepts. .

Great if you struggle with conversations.
John Gordon does it again. One of the things I sometimes have trouble with as a leader is having those difficult conversations. This books delivers in helping you have those. Giving you an outline to follow but in a fable like environment.

I love the narrative approach to resolution.
Amy and Jon did it again! It’s easy to connect with the characters and situations that cause dysfunction and frustration, yet the solution is clearly mapped out for us all! This is a must read for any and all who work with others and desire to build capacity & productivity!

Relationships Matter Most
“One of the most powerful things for team trust and performance is to have the difficult conversations.” (p. 83)Just finished reading this short yet powerful book. For me, the book filled in another piece on Conflict Management, which seems to be the current discovery journey upon which I find myself. The words of this book put more and proper terminology to the concepts which have been swirling in my head for at least six months. For instance, a few years ago, I was sharing my thoughts on the importance of having mission-focused alignment with a difficult team. It was definitely a moment where I expected resistance and hard questions. I even attempted to set some rules of engagement. While I had called the meeting, I knew it would involve some difficult conversations. Each person on that team wanted leadership to give them the benefit of the doubt, yet they struggled to reciprocate towards the supervisory team. In the room that day, many of the voices contained charged emotions and frustrated language. Based on my experience and vocabulary, my word choice became “the need to offer grace”, yet that just did not seem to connect in the manner I intended. One new phrase I gained from this book is “assume positive intent”. Assuming positive intent lowers defensiveness and contains the emotional energy on a topic. In today’s world, where negativity, pessimism, and personal attacks reign, we need more individuals to view actions and behaviors through the lens of positive intent!I am not entirely sure where all of these Conflict Management topics are leading me, but I do know I am being stretched, which is required for growth and development. Hopefully, within my own little sphere of influence, I can help others understand avoidance of disagreement is the problem which leads to conflict escalation and destructive outcomes. Instead talk it out, debate it, work it out, and come to some mutually agreeable consensus. We need more trusted relationships leading to respectful communication even when we have different opinions and views. If you need some help, then by all means, read this book. Then go have some difficult conversations which lead to winning together…

Do the difficult thing… have those discussions and win
This book uses a business situation to show just how pervasive avoiding important conversations can be. On the brink of a major failure, setting the stage for having difficult conversations can help a team break through what seem like impossible challenges. In a short and very readable – and believable, relatable format.
