Best action camera because of the larger sensor
Bought it as an upgrade from Gorpo Hero 11, I don’t even want to compare them because DJI action 6 is just miles ahead than the Gopro in every aspect – low light performance, color accuracy, battery life, non-overheat, wide angle warp correction, picture quality, audio… the list goes on and on. I regret investing so much on Gopro and accessories, which was a waste of money. The DJI action 6 shoots more like a real big-sensor camera, while gopro still has that cellphone feel.

Very happy with it. Very user friendly. I was a very loyal GoPro user, but I’m very glad that someone came out with a far superior action camera. DJI products are always user friendly and reliable. Battery lasts a long time. Love the mag clip on it, it’s makes it very portable for different applications.

I waited for this new model for a while and very happy I did. I came from using a GoPro 8 and as you know they have all kinds of issues. Love the picture quality and you can submerge into water without a case. It has so many functions for different styles of recording. Excellent stabilization options and you can directly connect your DJI mic directly to the camera( Not included)

So pleased I chose this instead of GoPro, it has a longer better life even in 20 degree weather, the night vision is exceptional, and is easy to learn how to operate! Its very waterproof test at the gym pool and the picture stability is just amazing!

This DJI Osmo Action 6 feels like the boffins in Shenzhen finally admitted that most of their ‘action’ cameras just sit on a tripod or are used for vlogging, and they leaned right into it. The sensor on this thing is a 1/1.1 inch square monster. It’s a huge step from the older 1/1.3 inch sensor in the Action 5, a size change that you can truly see when the sun dips. That SuperNight mode, rated down to ISO 51200, it’s not just a setting, it’s a whole different camera. I mean, my old action camera footage at dusk looked like it was filmed without even moonlight above, but the OA6 actually pulls out clean shadows and proper detail. It’s worth remembering that a 1/1.1 inch sensor is nearly a 70 per cent increase in surface area compared to the 1/2.3 inch chips that used to be the industry standard not so long ago. That’s not a minor tweak, that’s a “re-engineering”.Workflow Superpowers: The Square Sensor & Aspect RatiosThe fundamental brilliance of the Action 6 lies in that square sensor, obvs. It’s a genuine workflow superpower for the modern creator. It allows filming just a single time using a Custom 4K aspect ratio and then, in the Mimo app, extract a perfect 16:9 widescreen video for YouTube, or a crisp 9:16 vertical video for TikTok or Instagram Stories, all from the same clip. This completely negates the need to physically rotate the camera in a frame, which is a massive, massive time-saver in post-production!Aperture Control and Shooting ModesThe variable aperture, f/2.0 to f/4.0, is a fantastic, if slightly timid, idea. Tying the wide f/2.0 aperture mostly to the specific SuperNight mode feels like a bit of a cop-out, though it does serve a brilliant purpose when paired with the horrendously expensive, optional macro lens, allowing for that desired shallow depth of field. However, the ability to stop down to f/4.0 is brilliant for getting a cinematic starburst effect from bright points of light, like the sun, when shooting manually. When comes to the camera’s mode selection, well that’s pretty extensive, allowing you to fine-tune your capture for almost any scenario:Slow Motion: Capture serious action with up to 4K at 120 frames per second or 1080P at 240 frames per second.Specialised Recording: Modes like Pre-Recording (saves a loop before you hit record, so you never miss the action) and Loop Recording (for dashcam use) are hugely practical additions.Pro Quality: You can push the image to its limit by setting the Bit Rate to High for maximum detail and using the D-Log M colour profile, giving you the flat, high-control footage you need for proper colour grading.Body, Control, and ConnectivityThe physical body design is very action cam-y – strong, sturdy, and robust – and weighing in at 149 g, which is fine even for helmet mounting. The QR magnetic mounting system has been upgraded, and remains a true bit of what must perfect perfect design and I’ve yet to meet anyone that doesn’t absolutely love it! For sheer convenience and the ability to switch mounting orientation instantly, it’s simply the best there is, IMVHO. The waterproofing to 20 metres straight out of the box is a good 2 metres better than many rivals, as far as I can tell.Crucially, the control is now far more flexible than it used to be. Now there’s gesture control and voice control so the camera can be operated hands-free, which is a genuine convenience when the camera is mounted out of reach, or when close by but out of view such as when it is strapped to a helmet.Audio and Smartwatch DataThe audio capabilities are significantly upgraded as well. The OA6 now has three microphones and includes a “Wind Noise Reduction” setting. For even more serious audio capture, the OA6 can connect one or two separate DJI wireless microphones directly, enabling multi-track audio recording for interviews or dual-vlogging.Regarding data, the camera can natively record and display Depth and Altitude gauges for water and mountain activities. While the Garmin and Apple Watch data overlay (speed, heart rate, cadence) is not an on-screen feature during capture, it is nonetheless a brilliant, powerful post-production tool achieved exclusively inside the DJI Mimo app. This allows the camera to remain uncluttered during the shoot while still offering that fantastic digital (and some may, suffering) overlay afterwards.The 50Gb of built-in storage is a decent, tangible safety net for recording, especially when a one terabyte memory card will set you back about £115 for a fast one. Maximum battery life of four hours is also a solid benchmark, a clear half hour to 40 mins longer than some of its main competition, and the fact it’s cold-resistant is a proper benefit for anyone mad enough to film in a British winter.A Spanner in the Works: The Storage InterruptionIt is not all sweetness and light with the OA6 though, and there are some glitches lurking in the firmware that, whilst I expect a swift correction, are currently quite vexing. One issue, in particular, is a right bloomin’ nuisance: while recording directly to the SD card, the camera inexplicably ceases recording once the file size nudges 16Gb. Initially, I suspected a careless thumb had brushed the shutter button, as the unit simply stopped without automatically creating a new segment and continuing the capture. I have since tried the long-form recording test twice more, and the failing remains persistently present.As for the £319 price for the essential edition, it’s clearly competitive when compared to the top-end flagship camera currently available. But given the massive sensor, the flexible square recording format, the advanced audio capability, and the clever data tricks it performs, it feels to me that it really does deliver the best value in the action cam game right now. The only thing that truly sticks in the throat is that optional macro lens, priced at a truly extortionate £150 – almost half the price of the AO6 itself. A bit cheeky that.

La qualità video è davvero sorprendente, con colori molto naturali e una nitidezza che non mi aspettavo da una action cam.La stabilizzazione è incredibile: anche nelle riprese più movimentate il risultato è sempre fluido e piacevole da vedere.La utilizzo sia per vlog che per backstage dei miei shooting fotografici e si comporta sempre benissimo. Inoltre non si surriscalda, ha un audioottimo ed è veloce e affidabile. Anche l’interfaccia è intuitiva e permette di cambiare impostazioni in un attimo.In generale è diventata la mia action cam preferita: compatta, affidabile e con una qualità video eccezionale. Assolutamente consigliata.
