The Leadership Skill That Actually Matters Most
Technical expertise gets you promoted, but emotional intelligence determines whether you succeed as a leader. Baksh focuses on the EQ skills that separate executives who inspire teams from those who merely manage tasks. The book addresses real pressures modern leaders face: making fast decisions under stress, navigating team conflicts, and maintaining performance while juggling multiple responsibilities.Baksh’s approach to conquering overthinking proves especially valuable for leaders prone to analysis paralysis. You learn how to make decisive choices in high-stakes situations while developing skills for resolving conflicts with empathy and maintaining authority. The stress management techniques keep you emotionally controlled under pressure without suppressing the passion and energy that drive results. The communication frameworks help you deliver clear, authentic messages that land with different personality types, while assessment tools identify specific EQ blind spots that might be undermining your effectiveness. This practical guide transforms emotional intelligence from a soft skill into a competitive advantage that drives measurable business results and career advancement.

Leading Under Pressure? A Leadership Tool You’ll Actually Use!
Emotional Intelligence for Leaders by Kareema Baksh is a concise, practical guide that focuses on what truly matters in leadership today, especially for those of us in high-stake, fast-moving fields like IT. The book explores how developing emotional intelligence (EQ) can help you manage stress, make better decisions, and build stronger and more resilient team relationships. What stood out most to me was that the content is straightforward and easy to digest. It doesn’t overwhelm the reader with theory but instead offers grounded insights that apply directly to everyday leadership. For leaders in IT, where deadlines are tight and cross-functional teams are common, the strategies Baksh outlines like regulating emotions, building trust, and staying composed under pressure are immediately useful. The book’s greatest strength lies in its clarity and focused delivery. Baksh delivers key messages with just the right level of depth to encourage reflection without slowing you down. It’s perfect for professionals who want actionable advice without spending hours wading through dense academic writing. While the book doesn’t offer case studies or deep dives like Daniel Goleman’s Emotional Intelligence, I believe that’s by design. Instead, it works best as a motivational starting point or a refresher for leaders looking to reconnect with the human side of management. In short, Emotional Intelligence for Leaders is a timely, accessible read. It reminds us that how we lead emotionally is just as important as what we deliver. For anyone managing teams, projects, or high-pressure initiatives, this book can help you lead with more clarity, empathy, and confidence.

Good for anyone interested in improving and knowing emotional intelligence better for leadership
Great book on how to harness in on emotional intelligence for accomplishing goals, staying on track, connecting with others, leading and influencing others with empathy, handling stress, having confidence, and regulating oneself against doubt and obstacles. The book offers strategies and tips on regulating oneself in regards to emotions and connecting better with oneself to be a better influence and leader for others. I like how the book delves into empathy so one can learn to understand others too. Although many of the things listed seem common sense, the book explains in detail how to improve on these skills for leadership within oneself and others.

A Well Rounded Book On the Importance of Emotional Intelligence
This book gives a well-rounded look at recognizing your strengths and weaknesses regarding emotional intelligence or EQ. But where it excels is how it gives practical and actionable ideas, tips and techniques for improving your EQ. For example, the Emotional Mood Board helped me brainstorm effective ideas for me and my team, and the section on Empathy Mapping helped me personally in recognizing how I empathize with my team members. The case studies also help to clarify the ideas and techniques. Overall, the book offered a lot of solid information on this subject without being over technical in it’s approach, making it relatable.

There’s a lot of books on Emotional Intelligence around – what sets this one apart is the author’s remarkable life experiences, which she has harnessed to give a thoughtful yet practical guide to improving your EQ. Another point of difference is the EQ quiz before the introduction, which allows you to start reading with some helpful appreciation of where you personally are in terms of emotional intelligence. Highly recommended.
