Like a Wiim Ultra, Only Better!
Are there steamers out there that have higher sound quality? Sure. Are they 2-3 times the price of the Eversolo? Absolutely! For around $700 this all-in-one streamer / DAC is a fantastic buy. I also own a Naim Uniti Atom and a Wiim Ultra and this streamer is a lot closer to the $3000 Naim than it is the $300 Wiim Ultra.Connectivity: I have mine connected via ethernet, so the connection is quite stable for streaming, but I also tried wifi 6 and that was just about as stable. It has all the analog and digital connections you could want on the back (although NO headphone output, so keep that in mind). The internal DAC is great and sounds as good as any DAC that I own.Size: It’s relatively small in size (around 12″ x 8″). so it fits nicely on a desk or nightstand. In addition, it’s not very heavy (unlike the Naim Uniti!).Functionality: You can stream almost any available service (Qobuz, Tidal, Spotify, Deezer, etc..) effortlessly. I stream Tidal using the DMP-A6 as a Roon endpoint and the sound if phenomenal through all of my middle end speakers. The user interface is very easy when you use the Eversolo App on your iPad/iPhone and the LED screen is quite beautiful displaying album art and song details. You can even change it to display a parametric EQ or VU meters (very neat!).Setup: Setup is quite easy and the Eversolo App really simplifies everything. Most people who are looking at this will have zero issues setting up and having it streaming within a few minutes. For others, YouTube videos are your friend!Quality: The box exudes quality with solid materials, solid buttons / dials, and a nice solid feel. All in all, this a phenomenal deal considering the price and sound quality. I highly recommend the Eversolo DMP-A6 and plan to buy further Eversolo products in the future. Five stars!

Comparing DMP-A6 Masters Edition to the excellent Eversolo DMP-A8
Before the DMP-A8, I first purchased the Eversolo DMP-A6 Master Edition and found the sound to be bright, analytical, borderline harsh, compressed, and thin…basically not realistic or natural like my existing sources. Many have written about these traits and I confirmed this in my use. With the DMP-A6 ME thru my Ayon Audio Spirit III Class A tube amp, Ayon Audio Triton, CA Edge A, and Legacy Audio speakers I experienced the first time these amps sounded bright and fatiguing. Even the WiiM Pro Plus using fixed volume with its economy design and lower end AKM DAC sounded more open, airy, more warm, and more realistic in blind AB comparison, and at 1/5 the price. My intended use is as an all in one unit utilizing both single ended and XLR analog outputs with good volume control being important so I can drive power amps directly.I tested the DMP-A6 ME thru multiple different integrated amps and directly driving power amps including with fixed volume and all the filters. The best results were thru a Anthem Statement A2 power amp with Slow Roll-off DAC filter, which was still bright sounding but not as fatiguing as the other more accurate amps. Also remember there is an EQ where the treble can be trimmed but I am a believer in testing flat to see how the unit really sounds. As I really liked the software, interface, and quality I decided I would give Eversolo another try so I purchased the DMP-A8 with time to compare them side by side before the return window was up. The high end feature set in this A8 is very good and the difference in sound thru the A8 was immediate and overwhelmingly better with a very full, detailed, warm, and natural sound having better highs, extended bass, and a natural textured midrange. Yes there is a large price difference but those who say these two units sound similar must not have adequate amps and speakers, as it is night and day difference between these two units…think 1990’s digital verses analog. The A8 sound was very full and all encompassing with a wide and deep soundstage and the micro details were exceeding many other high end DAC’s I own and have tried…all without being too bright or glared over and still while providing that warm textured midrange timbre that is so important. Though the A8 is not the very best combination I have heard, it is 95% there and certainly at the best price. I have no doubt this AKM Velvet Sound Veritas combination is a lot of the difference over the ESS DAC’s in the DMP-A6 ME. Either way, there was not one setup (including in my sound treated near anechoic home theater) where the A8 did not trump the A6…and yes it is much more expensive but given the many features, excellent DAC, digital side DSP, Linear Power supply, analog inputs, and very good preamp using r2r volume control it is worth the money. If you do not have the budget there are other options (including anything from Cambridge Audio and even the low cost WiiM Pro Plus) that sound more natural without the glare. If you like a more etched, detailed, bright sound the A6 might be for you but if you have bright sounding speakers, look out.I think the extended range, immediacy, sound decay, and naturalness of an accurate Class A tube amplifier really shows the weaknesses of the DMP-A6 ME and the strengths of the DMP-A8 as Class D amplifiers, like so many persons are using now, haze over the frequency extremes and retract the midrange (I tested a Rotel Class D power amp as well). Furthermore, the DMP-A8 destroys the A6 ME in the quality manner in which it smooths out old recordings like the classic Jazz and 1980’s rock…old Rolling Stones albums sound really good. A great test of how well the upper, middle, and lower frequencies can be handled by the DMP-A8 verses the A6 is Wynton Marsalis’s Unforgivable Blackness…which is a masterpiece that is very well recorded. The downside of this A8 is that it is Chi-Fi so reliability could very well be an issue but looking at the components and high quality and intelligent layout of the circuit board…I hope I am wrong as the warranty of 1 year for a component at this cost shows little confidence from Eversolo. Either way, I am keeping the A8 and have returned the A6 ME, but I will be sure to buy an extended warranty for at least 3 years and I will certainly come back with comments if it fails.

    Great streamer, DAC, and preamp
This is a really nice unit that could be an endgame piece of some folks. My previous setup was an A6 streamer going to a Hegal H90 integrated I was using as a DAC/preamp. With the A8 I noticed right away things were smoother but a bit lean sounding. Having played it now for 2 months I can say the response has evened out with wonderful full bass and a wide and deep soundstage. The rest of my setup consists of a B&K reference power amp and Legacy Signature speakers that I have upgraded the crossovers with much better caps, inductors and resistors. I’m now getting more subtle cues about instrument placement and the space around voices and instruments. Good systems resolve these kinds of things and the A8 is right at home providing this resolution. It’s got just about every connection you could want including I2s, HDMI(arc), USB, and even an analog input so you can really make it the center hub of a system. It even uses r-to-r ladder resistors for the volume control vs a digital that can degrade sound. It has DSP and EQ that I have not used. The app is very good with little issues and allows control of all functions. I use Tidal streaming and use the connect feature so I can control the music right from the Tidal app. One thing to note…I’ve also got my TV sound coming in to an optical input. When I want to switch back to streaming I have to switch the input back to “internal player”. It would be nice if it would automatically go to that when I wanted streamed music. The included remote works well as do the meters(love the meters!) in the display which is the same size as the one in the A6. I would say the biggest difference between the A6 and the A8 (for me anyway) is the improved sound quality. I wasn’t using the DAC in the A6 because it sounded just ok to me but the new “Velvet” DAC chips in the A8 are truly smoother sounding and even higher resolving than my previous setup. And as an audiophile, that makes it all worth it. Highly recommended.

From other reviews I read online and watched on YouTube, I decided to pull the trigger on this streamer fully intending to only replace my current network streamer. I had separates for literally everything in my audio chain. I tested this in three configurations to see its full potential against my separates and this thing really blew me away. Using it purely as a streamer going in to my Denafrips Pontus ii via i2s connection, it was noticeably better than my bluesound node which is modified with a linear power supply but I wouldn’t say justifies the price difference. Using it as an all in one streamer/dac/preamp, the difference in price was definitely justified as the sound was wider, more precise in imaging and had improved dynamic range. When I used this as a streamer/Dac going in to my Schiit Freya+, my jaw dropped and I was like a kid getting a new toy at Christmas. Soundstage, dynamics, and imaging were all just mind blowing. I see why Eversolo has made such a name for themselves in such a short time. The internal Dac embarrassed my former Dac that is 2/3 the price of this unit and streamer performance is rock solid with capabilities for bit perfect network streams. The hdmi arc means I don’t have to compromise on audio from my tv which was a major selling point for me. If you are on the fence about this unit, I will say it’s worth every penny.
