Wow.. What a Stunner of a book
Loved reading this book! I have a severe short attention span so Ive been seeking any information on how to improve that. This read gave me some valuable insights and different perspectives on training my brain to focus better. It pretty much hints at how focus is cultivated through self-discipline. It really went into how rest and sleep is so important and if your not rested enough that will mess up your focus (which ties into self-discipline) . The book re-iterates the main point, that being, you have to nourish your mind with good habits and healthy choices which creates a more stable stress free focused mind.

A recommended read
This is a practical guide for anyone struggling with distractions. The section on Different Minds, Different Challenges was especially eye-opening—it helped me understand how individual cognitive styles affect focus. A recommended read if you want to improve productivity and approach concentration with more empathy and insight.

A Comprehensive Exploration of Attention and Productivity
This book completely changed the way I understand focus. I love how the author explains the science behind attention in a way that’s simple, practical, and actually enjoyable to read. The examples—like the brain’s ‘spotlight,’ dopamine’s role in motivation, and how daily rhythms affect concentration—made everything finally click for me. What impressed me most is how actionable the strategies are; I found myself using them immediately in my work and daily routines. It’s a refreshing, insightful guide for anyone who struggles with distraction and wants to regain mental clarity.

What I love about this book is it is grounded on science. The author, being a neuroscientist, has done a great job supporting every claim with scientific data, and neuroscience research. But in addition, Ossama’s writing is very engaging. He uses storytelling format, making the reader wants more and more. The book provides great neuroscience information on the prefrontal cortex and attentional system. The book also has clear goals on how to improve your attention and stay focused. All of the tips here are scientifically sound and accurate. The discussion on the relationship between stress and attentional performance is quite great. I also really quite like the cartoons and images used in the book. They are all well-designed and very descriptive. Overall, the Focused Mind book is highly recommended to anyone struggling with staying focused, want to improve their attentional performance, and want to use science-based techniques to do so.

I like that the book is covering core materials that impact focus. It even talks about the feng sui of the work environment or the importance of managing digital notifications. But the chapters are very short and surface level. I wish the author went into more depth on each subject. Or it should be geared towards teenagers rather than adults.
