A great smart phone detox device!
This is a great phone. over the years, my smart phone has taken over my life. the countless apps i have been installing, the endless you tube short scrolls, the countless news feeds i have been reading, the time consuming forwards from WhatsApp group messages, life seemed out of control.I did a switch to a dumb phone few years back. then went to samsclub, and didn’t have the store card. ( i use sto-card app to store store cards), to complete my purchase, I had to call my wife, get the sams club card number and make the purchase. this was very discouraging and after a week, i got cold feet and switched back to my samsung galaxy. This time around I have a samsung S22 and when the S24 was announced, I was very much tempted to go for it. samsung especially gives a good trade in price for old phones, i was offered $450. getting the S24 was no brainer. but again, i started thinking, how to make use of this opportunity to switch to a dumb phone so that i use my phone only for basic tasks and stop this mind numbing, screen staring addiction.my requirement was that i needed to use phone, text and WhatsApp. I have lot of international friends who communicate with me through whatsapp, so that was a must. later i felt i needed maps and an app to store my store cards. after much research and watching youtube videos , i decided to take the plunge.I am so glad i did and brought this phone. even thought this dura extreme plus phone says verizon, its an unlocked phone. i have spectrum mobile and swapping the sim card just made it work without any issues.its a basic phone, it runs android 10 i understood. following a youtube video, i unlocked the developer options and was able to sideload android apps by connecting to a pc and loading the apk files. i loaded whatsapp, Waze maps and sto card. ( see picture ). its been 2 weeks and i am a happy man reclaiming the time that would have been lost starting at my smart phone screen.some important points:1. not all features of WhatsApp work. text, picture messages, voice messages, WhatsApp web, WhatsApp app for mac ( WhatsApp for windows would also work, i haven’t tested though.) all works. WhatsApp call / video call does not work. ( this is because WhatsApp incoming call has a jumping icon and i have not found a way to click it.). as a workaround, I use my mac t o make and receive WhatsApp voice / video calls. the phone app would still ring and notifies me of the incoming call. so if I am outside, i can still make a direct call to the person who did a WhatsApp call to me.2. i could nt make google maps work, but wayz worked. the interface is clunky to type and click, but it works, i need this only in an emergency. if i always plan my drives of the places i am going , taking notes on a post it note like the pre mobile days, it works. In fact, i am now more directionally and geographically sensitive, previously i would just stare at my google maps app and numb my mind not knowing where i am driving, now i feel i am in better control of my drives.3. the sto card app really works. i could nt sign in to google to retrieve all my cards, but the app lets take pictures of bar codes and store it, so i did. the other day when i used my flip phone in ShopRite, the checkout girl was like what, you can store cards in a flip phone???one thing i still miss is my YouTube music app. that didn’t work, for some reason, login to google apps doesn’t work in this phone. but i miss it only when i drive, so i listen to news / gospel / classical music these days when i drive. i am becoming a more calmer person. its liberating!if you are like me helpless about your iPhone or samsung smart phone taking over your life, this phone might save your life!

A heavy duty, rugged flip phone
This phone is a much heavier duty version of my (till now) current phone. I first charged the battery to full, and took both phones to the local Verizon store. The tech was able to transfer my phone number, sim card and contacts to the new phone. No charge, to my surprise. Although “refurbished”, the phone is like new inside and out. All features and functions operate perfectly.I use flip phones only, and they have a hard life in my pocket as a Groundskeeper. The slim Kyocera phone this is replacing was six years old, still functioning. I switched as a precaution to assure not loosing valuable contact info should the old one fail, it’s happened to me before. This new “Extreme Duty” phone is far more rugged than the old one, I expect it to last for many years. This was an excellent purchase and smart investment from my perspective, very pleased.

Poor Quality, Poor Customer Service
I need a phone that the flashlight works. I have just received the third phone that the flashlight does not work straight out of the box. I will have to return it again. I don’t know what else won’t work if the flashlight doesn’t work on a renewed phone. I returned two already in the last week for the same issue, now I need to return this one too. If you don’t have time to spend your day printing labels and packaging returns, go somewhere else. I reached out to the seller about the issue, and they just said, “Talk to Amazon”. The one phone I returned also had a faulty hinge. It would screech and pop when you flipped the phone open and shut.

Really GOOD Phone but it’s BIG
It is a Renewed Phone, although you can’t tell, because it arrived in Excellent, Good as New Condition. It works really well. I didn’t give it a 5 Star because its bigger and bulkier, and heavier than I expected. I am going to keep and use it camping etc when it’s rugged, water proofness will be a blessing. But Day-to-Day it’s too big for pockets
