Some pros and some cons.
I used this study guide in conjunction with another from a different company. Between the two, I passed the ASWB Social Work boards on the first try. Here are my thoughts:Pros: The book offers a great orientation to the sections of the test and how it is organized, clearly identified and organized areas of learning. It gave some practical tips to get started with, strategies about when to do some of the practice tests, etc. It also offered 1 full length practice test with answer keys and detailed answers about how the answers came to be. The Mometrix learning academy also linked to 3 full length tests online. Each chapter also had a practice quiz. What was very helpful was brief videos that dived more deeply into topics like alcohol use disorder, id/ego/superego, Piaget’s theory, etc. These were very helpful. I was also able to subscribe to Mometrix study scoops which came every Sunday. It was very helpful to have different modalities for those who learn in different ways. The book itself was very comprehensive and offered helpful charts around family life theory, aggression cycles, Piaget, Freud, Kohlberg, leadership styles, etc.Cons: While the guide, videos and practice quizzes were helpful, the tests were not. Despite strong and thorough studying, the tests missed the mark. There were obscure topics, concepts that were not applicable, and in comparison to the ACTUAL test, left me feeling like there were areas I wasted time studying when I could have used the time to study other areas.Was the guide helpful? Yes. Was it the end all to be all? No. My suggestion: figure out the areas where your knowledge and understanding is limited or where there is a gap, and study that. I also pulled out my textbooks from graduate school to dive more deeply into topics that I needed more context about and/or refresher. Good luck with your studying!

Exactly the exam prep I needed
I’m a social worker but have been out of the field for a decade. I needed a refresher before my licensing exams, and this book was great – very thorough and went through the tests structure and what to expect well. I feel better prepared for licensing exams now.
