Very stiff
This laptop stand does a great job overall and would be 5 stars but for a couple of exceptions. The hinges are very stiff. On the positive side, it means it stays in place without collapsing. However, it takes a lot of effort to adjust it up and down. It comes with an Allen wrench to loosen the hinges, but I was only able to loosen the middle hinges and the wrench will likely disappear before long.This stand does have a lot of range, from a couple inches to nearly a foot. It holds both my lightweight laptop as well as my 17″ workhorse. I was initially worried that the elevated weight would cause it to tip over, but it has a really good balance and has never come close to being wobbly or tipping. It also rotates easily and clicks when rotating so that it is not free spinning.One thing to be careful of is to make sure it stays centered over the base. It’s possible to extend it out in front of the base, but that causes it to start sagging, which is better than tipping over.The stands have grip pads on the base to keep it from slipping, as well as grip pads on the holder to keep the laptop from slipping. There are also slots in the holder to help with cooling. Now if only it included a tote bag for carrying it from place to place, with a pocket to store the wrench.

Attractive and neatly constructed but the hinges fail to support my moderate weight laptop
The stand is attractively constructed and finished but the hinges are a nuisance to adjust and even when very tight they fail to bear the weight of a moderate weight laptop. To adjust the position of the stand you loosen and tighten 6 hex screws with the small Allen wrench provided (5/32″ or 4 mm). When that failed I tried tightening the screws with a larger wrench providing more torque and I still couldn’t get the hinges tight enough to support my laptop.The hinges need to be reengineered to provide more friction or better yet with locking teeth for secure configuration. And tightening knobs or tabbed nuts would be much more convenient than a small Allen wrench.Functionally as a laptop stand I’d have to give this stand a one star rating. It can still be used to support light items like a recipe card or directions, pictures and diagrams I sometimes use while working on projects in the shop. However, I ordered this stand to support a laptop and it failed completely, so I’m disappointed. I would not order the product again.

Great Stand, Sturdy , Solid stand that can get some serious height
This stand is actually really awesome — almost a perfect 5 stars for me. It’s super sturdy and the hinges are no joke. Once you set the height, it’s locked in and not going anywhere. The flip side is… those hinges are really stiff. Adjusting it takes some effort. It does come with a tiny Allen wrench to loosen them a bit, but I only had luck with the middle hinge — and I’m sure that wrench will vanish into the abyss of missing tools soon enough.The height range is great though. You can go from just a small lift to almost a foot up, which makes working way more comfortable. It also holds everything I’ve thrown on it — my light everyday laptop and even my heavy 17″ workhorse. I was nervous about it tipping when raised high, but it’s balanced really well. It also rotates smoothly and has a little click as it turns, so it doesn’t spin out of control.Just make sure you keep the laptop centered over the base. If you push it too far forward, it starts to sag a bit (better than tipping, but still worth noting).The anti-slip pads do their job on both the base and the holder arms, and the venting slots help keep things cool. If it came with a little carrying bag — maybe with a pocket for that tiny wrench — it would be perfect.Overall: sturdy, adjustable, and super useful — just a little stiff in the joints. which I guess is a good thing but also adjustable

Not suitable for the advertised use of elevating a laptop computer
Adjustment of this device requires loosening/tightening six different hex screws. It comes with a 4mm hex wrench that’s only 2-1/2 inches long, with which it’s impossible to tighten the screws enough for it to work with even a relatively light MacBook Air. The hex screws are apparently a little out of spec, so even the best hex driver fits a little loosely. As a result, the screws are likely to be damaged by cam-out of the driver, resulting in stripping or rounding of the head.Once you get it adjusted, it’s impossible to type on the computer without it bouncing up and down, making it impossible to use without a separate keyboard.The claims of “no wobble” and “thick weighted base” are humbug. The base is made of the same 1/8-inch aluminum as the platform that the computer sits on, and is not “weighted” in any way. The entire unit weighs just over 2 pounds.It’s hard to imagine any situation in which I would feel comfortable leaving an expensive laptop perched on this device. If I did, it would be useful only for display. Interacting with the computer while it’s dangling a foot in the air on this device as shown in the seller’s description is out of the question.
