Meet January!

January is a lovable character we can all relate to: trying to get out of bed on the first day back to school after winter break. January loves to be cozy and warm and play with her new toys. Finally, the day comes when winter break is almost over. She does not like to walk to school in the cold, but she wants to wish her friends a Happy New Year! Will she make it to school? January finds herself feeling blue, but with the help of friends, that feeling fades away.

Book 1 of the The Calendar Kids Book Series

Created by an elementary school teacher, The Calendar Kids Book Series is a tool for educators and parents to help their students and children connect with the events and weather that take place during different months of the year. While teaching, author April Martin discovered there were not many books about the months of the year. That is where her very own name gave her an idea! She created characters with names of the months and uses visuals about the months in their hairstyles and outfits to help children easily recall the months of the year. The Calendar Kids Series includes a diverse group of characters, discussion questions, recipes, monthly facts, fun stories, and even offers additional teacher resources online. We can’t wait for you to meet them all!

This series was written and illustrated by April Martin.

    relatable and fun
This story follows January as she shares her love for the winter month, but fears the frigid cold temperatures. As she heads back to school after the New Year she freezes solid and her classmates work together to help melt the ice. Knowing she is struggling with accepting the cold, her friend takes action and creates a comfortable environment for her to enjoy! This relatable read is spot on with enjoying the fun cold weather activities, but not loving the layering of clothes or freezing of fingertips! We enjoy learning facts about the month, as well as the delicious recipe for snowman pancakes!

When January arrives at school frozen, her teachers and classmates warm her up while teaching young minds what the month of January is about. The illustrations are charming. Bonus features include January fun facts and events, discussion questions, and a recipe for snowman pancakes.Book One in an educational series for preschool and elementary readers.

One of the best book collections…
One of the best book collection out there! It’s crazy I started my daughter with February for her bday month last year 2024 and have been getting each month ever since, I started reading them for her (kinder), then I went with helping her read them and now that it’s almost a full year she’s reading them on her own! (Now in 1st grade) She loves them!… She loves to just go back or forward in the months to just read or look at facts about the month… We are missing November and December CANNOT WAIT for those to come out!I bought her January and for her birthday next month I will gift her the doll and I will do that for the rest of the year as we go until the two new books come out and as the dolls are also coming out I haven’t quite looked to see if they are all available! The animation is great the stories are great the facts and extra cooking/baking pages are also awesome!

    Adorable story!
I bought this book on a whim. While looking for books to add to our January collection. It’s hard to find books right after Christmas that talk about winter. Most books that deal with winter or snow are holiday related. And I stumbled across meet January. So I bought it. I am so glad that I did. It is such a cute book with such a cute story. I love how she has woven the other month Children into the story so as those books are released. We will already feel as if we know them. Can’t wait to add the entire calendar to our bookshelf

    Cute Way to Teach
I thought this was a fun story for middle graders learning about seasons or months. It was thoughtful to include facts about January, the recipe for Snowman Pancakes, and discussion topics. These inclusions add to the story as well as the series. The author made January a real kid. Her attempts to skip school, even using her fox, is something we can all relate to.I liked how both the positives and negatives about the season/January were highlighted. A child freezing solid was played down, but it worked well in other lessons about cold and ice.Overall, this is a cute book with lovely illustrations. My grandkids will enjoy this story and the pictures. I’m sure your young readers will, too.

I bought this book for my daughters birthday in January and she loved it! I like that January’s best friends are the months before and after.
