excellent
A very good book on dealing with turbulent times and building strength in our souls. The app mentioned, Pause, is also very good.

Your Survival Guide for Your Heat and Soul
John Eldrige has always been one of my favorite writers once I was fortunate enough to have discovered him. He writes to my soul, straight to my heart. This is because he gets it. He gets the struggle of being in this world. He understands too the victory that Jesus has already won – and the tension between those two realities. Reading this book will help you slow down, take a deep breath, and focus on the God who can help you with the pace of life and the challenges of the day. I love how he starts each chapter with a real-life situation or story that we can relate to and allows him to expound on his points, and then ends with a vulnerable, heart-felt open prayer to bring application to our spirit. The theme running through his works is that God is after our heart, but so is our enemy. All of life is related to that struggle, that battle. The timing of the book is too, because just Eldridge, we have all gone through more than we know these past couple years and lost some things along the way during the pandemic. If we are not aware and careful – it impacts our heart and the way we see life, which he so eloquently discusses. He calls the book “a survival guide” with “tools for strengthening heart and soul”. That alone should be the reason you too want to read this one. I was advanced a copy through NetGalley and the publisher for an honest review without commitment to recommend the book, though it was so good I did buy a copy for myself.

A must read for RESILIENCY!
I’ve been a John and Stasi Eldridge fan for 20 years. This book has been one of my favorites by John! Through my cancer journey, and the challenges of life, in general, this book has given me wisdom and insight! Through my walk with Christ, coupled with the encouragement of John’s word, I’m finding that resiliency CAN be achieved! Oh, I’ve read it TWICE! It sits near me so I can refer to it as often as I need!On another note–I purchased his newest book, Experience Jesus. Really!

Enriching and deepening God’s presence
This is John’s best book yet. I have several of his and this one surpasses Waking the Dead. There is both a depth here of God’s heart, as well as a gentle drawing closer to the love, peace and heart of the Father. There is a soothing balm in the words of compassion and gentleness, and a welcoming into life with Jesus to heal and “restore my resilience.” Thank you, John and crew. I got the “Pause” app and it has provided an amazing time with the Father, Son and Holy Spirit in ways I’ve not experienced before. The prompts there to “linger” (I think that’s John’s new favorite word 😊) slowly, inch by inch, provided me a union with God such that I hear Him speaking to my heart and mind more frequently. It is amazing. Thank you, John, all those behind the tender voices on the app, and all involved in producing this life-giving tool to draw us all closer to the heart of the Father.

A book that helps continued growth with Christ
I thought this was a pretty good read. It was quick, and full of some really good revelations (pun intended). My biggest takeaway is that salvation is a journey, not a moment. And that even if you’re saved, you’re also human, and you’re going to make mistakes. That said, the book also offers up ways to develop a stronger relationship with Christ even in those moments of mistakes.I thought COVID was a little overplayed in the book but recognize that it is 2024, and COVID (for me) is in the distant rear view whereas when the book was written I suspect we were just coming out of the fray that was COVID.But I would definitely recommend this book. We need more Christ in this world, and this book helps encourage that.

This book is really great and worth reading
My good friend Johnny and I read this book as a weekly devotional and I’m very glad that I purchased this. Strongly recommended for Christians, especially when they are struggling and / or feeling discouraged.

Great Guide to Resilience!
I’m reading Resilient for the second time, this time with the companion study guide, PAUSE app and a journal. John Eldridge is a wise author who knows our souls were made for Union with God, who imparts resilience. The app is a 30-day journey I recommend you take. I feel and see God’s presence as we are becoming more and more intimate. I write the scripture in my journal and have been drawing pictures so my roots go down deep into His Word and His Love. This is lifetime journey and I highly recommend these tools for abiding more with Jesus and less in the worries of the world, while He gives much needed rest to your soul.

I’ve only read three chapters, but this is something you don’t want to miss. I’ve read a fair amount of their works but this tops them all. It’s tone is much more different since it is for serious times such as falling away from God etc. While he says it’s not a prophetic book, having been brought up on prophecy everything he’s saying about the current times falls completely in line for what’s taking place and about to take place. This is, you could say, is a book that St John would perhaps write if he wrote a book based on his letter of Revelation for us. If people have issues with end time, zombie apocalyptic stuff – don’t worry!! This isn’t a book that makes you worry about the piece of chocolate you greedily ate earlier, this really sets the tone of how to enter into a deeper relationship with God and returning to Him as our first love because from that will come repentance and desire to detach from sin.Recommend without a doubt!

As with many people, I greatly enjoyed some of John Eldredge’s other books, including Wild at Heart, Captivating, and Waking the Dead. I bought the book both for a deep fascination with resilience as a deeply needed topic, as well as a respect and appreciation of John Eldredge’s other writings. This book did not live up to either my interest in resilience, or my appreciation of John Eldredge’s other writings. What the book is about is consoling timid figures in the light of the Covid 19 pandemic. It does not deal with Biblical resilience, and indeed omits proper Biblical exploration of the subject. He talks a lot, but all in all says very little, and I found myself growing bored very quickly. I regret the purchase. It did not outlive its application during covid times.

Love all things Wild at Heart and John Eldredge! Got to hang out with some of his team on a motorbike trip in Bolivia and they recommended this book and the app that goes with it.I love some of the thought trail around how we are in a desolate place but all is not lost and we can regain our resilience!Highly recommend!
