As organizations shift to depend more on team-based structures, the pressure to develop high-performing teams is more critical than ever. In the modern work environment, teams are expected to embrace change, navigate complexity, and collaborate well under pressure ―all while delivering exceptional results and forming productive relationships.
While it is crucial to have talented, bright people within a team, there is a dynamic that is even more essential to overall team effectiveness. This dynamic is “Team Emotional Intelligence” (Team EQ). While most people are familiar with emotional intelligence (EQ) when it comes to individuals, the power of how EQ relates to the entire team has not been well-understood until now.
Insights from the latest research on team emotional intelligence and TalentSmartEQ’s research trends from working with over 200 teams (with 2000+ team members) combine to bring EQ know-how to the team level. Team Emotional Intelligence 2.0 delivers practical strategies and showcases how an emotionally intelligent team is far more than the sum of its parts. This book focuses on the four key skill areas of Team EQ:
Team Emotion AwarenessTeam Emotion ManagementInternal Team RelationshipsExternal Team Relationships
It delivers 53 strategies and a step-by-step process for increasing team EQ skills so team leaders and anyone who’s a member of a team can achieve peak performance and reach their goals.
Dr. Greaves, Evan Watkins, and their contributing team of experts begin with a life and death story of team failure that illustrates how emotions can drive team decisions and lead to disaster. They share a proven approach to helping teams understand Team EQ skills, build these skills into strengths, and use them to sustain positive momentum and achieve peak performance. Strategies for remote and hybrid teams working virtually offer targeted approaches to bonding, communicating, tough conversations, and decision making as modern workplaces transform.
Like she did with the best-selling Emotional Intelligence 2.0 (at 3 million copies sold and counting), Dr. Greaves and her team take complex concepts and translate them into easy-to-understand skills that can be used immediately and developed further over time. As organizations increasingly rely on getting work done through teams, the understanding and development of team EQ skills is more relevant and impactful than ever.

The perfect companion book for Emotional Intelligence 2.0
The guidance in this book is exemplary. Having read Emotional Intelligence 2.0 several years ago, I wanted to read this book to see how EQ extends beyond personal growth. This book is a must-have for team members who are motivated to have unity of purpose and a harmonious environment.Early in the book, the authors describe: What emotion management sounds like and conversely what lack of emotion management sounds like. That is a very small part of the book, but there are perhaps a dozen or so illustrations to help leaders and team members to understand the foundation of Team EQ. This book helps you forge a pathway to creating a team atmosphere where relationships are built and performance is enhanced. If you believe that there is truth in, “Teamwork makes the dream work.” the four strategies shared in this book will set the stage for “the power of ‘we'” and how to make that reality in your organization.- Emotion Awareness Strategies- Emotion Management Strategies- Internal Relationship Strategies- External Relationship StrategiesOrder the book. If you are team leader, you need this book
Through the work of Daniel Goleman, most of us have been exposed to the concept of personal emotional intelligence (EQ) and its components—self-awareness, self-management, other awareness, and relationship management. Understanding our own EQ contributes to our mental health, resiliency, and allows us to relate to others effectively. The authors of Team Emotional Intelligence 2.0 have applied this approach to teams with the goal of developing high-performing teams. They identify the four skill sets involved as emotional awareness, emotional management, internal relationships and external relationships.Under each set, they offer strategies to enhance the awareness, health, and effectiveness of a team and give concrete examples of successful application as well as planning ideas. The approach is very practical. The primary concern is that the leader or group facilitator not become overwhelmed but focus on a few key strategies.I have used the individual Emotional Intelligence framework in coaching and appreciate its effectiveness. Since teams are important in the success of most organizations, I am pleased to see its application to teamwork. This is an interesting and, hopefully, useful approach to developing team effectiveness. You have already voted this -

Clear examples and plans to improve
The book provided good information on what Team EQ is, as well as how to tackle improving it on any type of team. I particularly liked the examples of what strong/week ‘sounded like’ on teams, as well as the recommended game plan to work on one area at a time. I am excited to start working with my team on Emotion Management, and I will use the long list of strategies provided to help us in this area. You have already voted this -
Better teamwork communications, collaborations and impact
Team Emotional Intelligence 2.0 is essential for impactful teams.Best for teams that want to grow – not only in business but personally as well.I loved this book for many reasons. If you read it with an open mind, you’ll be able to view not only yourself in how you show up and what your flaws are in daily interactions with colleagues, you’ll be able to view yourself in ways you can improve, align and deepen relationships inside and outside of the office. The book is broken down into sections of why it matters; four essential skills; action plans and strategies. At the end of the book, there are discussion questions for book clubs and team. So if you decide to read it as a team, it will help guide you through the ways to work, plan and act going forward. This book and its exercises would be a great addition to an annual strategic planning session. You have already voted this
