The BEST Professional Reading for ALL Teachers K-12+!
When I purchased this book, I thought it was just going to be some ideas to incorporate creativity into our lessons so students would have some fun while learning. Boy, was I wrong, and I’m so glad!!Jed and Julie combined the scientific research of play and the pedagogy of the classroom. When was the last time you couldn’t put down a book on professional development? Finally, a book filled with pages that hooks the teacher to bring the students back into focus instead of “the test.” I learned the difference between playing and playful and its importance. “Play designs the future, inspires creativity, builds trust, strengthens relationships, cultivates community and nurtures growth.” You will learn how to incorporate “play” into your lessons to make them more meaningful and the learning unforgettable. With our students becoming more disconnected with the use of technology, this book gives the teacher strategies on how to build community in our classroom, strengthen social skills, create meaningful connections and to cultivate a safe space to allow for mistakes to be made FOR ACADEMIC SUCCESS for our students. And don’t think this book is written only for the elementary grades because there are specific examples on how to have a practical but playful high school classroom. Finally, at the back of the book, there are LOTS of “challenges” or specific ideas to include in your curriculum/lessons to get you started. I can’t encourage you enough to buy this book. Enjoy reading about how to put the fun back in learning and even laugh at the realities of teaching that Jed and Julie share from their own experiences in their classrooms. Buy this book for yourself and your students, you will use it all year to help plan your lessons.

    Wonderful and Inspiring
As a teacher, I’m always on the lookout for professional development to help me improve in my craft. When I saw on a STEM group I belong to that the authors of this book were going to do a book study on this book, I knew I had to be a part of it! This book is so well written and engaging. It’s an easy read. The authors share so many great ideas! It’s also very thought provoking and I am making notes of ideas I want to implement school year. Thank you for a great book and for inspiring this teacher!

Best Professional Development I’ve had in Years!
A stick to it reactive math? Rocks to practice spelling? There are no special tools or texts to buy. Anything can be used to bring fun to the classroom! This is definitely NOT a dry textbook intoning about some recycled pedagogy. (Sorry to all the other authors of teacher PD books) This is a chat with your teacher buddies talking about the ways we can return fun to learning and to teaching! Not something new to add, it is remembering that fun learning makes school the best. I read it over the summer and was rejuvenated for the new school year. Jed and Julie make this a fun, informative read!

    Great book, even better Author!
First I have to say I met one of the Authors, Jed, at Teach Your Heart Out in Atlanta last year. He is the most genuine and kind person I have ever met! A true blue southern gentleman that man’s everybody feel like somebody. He knows his stuff and is an advocate for kids at all costs. His character shines right through in this book. It’s witty but real. I am only partially through it but man am I going to hold onto all this book has to offer and implement it in my kindergarten classroom. This book applies to all ages though. If you’re an upper level teacher you can benefit from the knowledge here too! Highly highly recommend this as reading for all teachers! You will not regret your purchase!

A Conversation About Why Play Needs to Be In Class and The World
The Playful Classroom is a must-read for teachers, school administrators, members of Boards of Education, parents, and concerned citizens. This book provides a deep dive on why it is important to incorporate play into a classroom. More importantly, though, the authors give advice on how to make classrooms playful. This book is like having a conversation at a coffee shop with Jed and Julie: down to earth, full of stories, humor, and knowledge. Even as a park and recreation professional who understands, values, and promotes the power of play, this book has helped me reshape some of my ideas and programming to help children get the play they need and the learning they desire.

    This is an amazing book!
I started this book to help bring some play back into my classroom. I can’t begin to tell you all the wonderful things that I have learned along the way. Play has taken on a whole new meaning. Not just for my students in my classroom but for myself as well. Play isn’t just for the young, but for the young at heart. This book has given me back my passion for teaching and learning. Thank you Jed and Julie! I can’t wait for the fall to get here so I can use what you’ve taught me!!!

    Amazing Resource!
This book is truly game-changing! I purchased this over the summer and began reading it. I truly feel this book sparked a shift in me as a school psychologist for the better. It opened my eyes to just how incredibly valuable play truly can be in child development both socially/emotionally, but also academically, including building executive functioning skills in children. I am a firm believer that children need more play throughout their days. Thank to this book I’ve shifted how I do counseling with my students and try my best to increase play resources into my lessons to help my students reach their targeted skills we are working with them on. I promise you, you will not be disappointed and will learn SO much valuable information.
