Good book for the latest LTS release of Ubuntu. Good for beginners also…
A previous comment stated that this book is good for “older versions of Ubuntu”. That was VERY unfair. This book covers 24.04 which is the latest LTS (long term support) of Ubuntu, which is the version I have installed on my new computer. Just got this and it is a pretty good book. I am retired but a beginner in Ubuntu and this is a great start. This is probably going to handle all of my needs while I am getting accustomed to abandoning WIN11. Suck it Microsoft.

Great book to get started with older versions of Ubuntu.
Fantastic guide to help get you started with Ubuntu. If you have any experience using Ubuntu this book may be too basic for you. I personally used this to get a very old Dell R710 online and functional with Ubutnu. It explains the operating system at a basic level so someone with no experience can get Ubuntu installed, updated and running. If you are starting with a version of Ubuntu older than 25.10 keep running updates && upgrades until you get to the 25.10. There was a lot of changes going into 25.10 and files were rearranged which required hours of fixing to update all the dependent files.

Not for those new to Linux or its distributions and certainly not the “Ultimate” handbook!
This is a long review but the jist of it is: Do not waste your money or time on this book especially if you are new to Linux and this distribution! You will likely have problems that this book will not even begin to deal with or explain properly. I have been disappointed every time I tried to use it to explain anything or deal with even issues that seem trivial!I have abandoned Windows 11 because of the “big brother” tactics of the makers of Windows and have turned to this Linux “distribution”. I have used Windows since its first version and I can tell you that although Ubuntu has a Windows like GUI it has not been a piece of cake to get to know and this book is certainly not the “ultimate” handbook for this distribution.I am, in no way, suggesting that the author does not know the operating system. Only that, knowing a subject inside and out does not mean that you will be able to teach it to others especially since Ubuntu still has some issues (bugs) like many software packages do.In addition, this is Linux and you will probably find that you will have to use it to install some third party package(s) and, if you are new to Linux as I am this book will not help you.I can tell you that I did a “clean” install and despite the fact that the motherboard I bought did not have any drivers at all for Wifi or Lan the drivers in Ubuntu handled everything just fine which, I have to admit, shocked me. It comes with Firefox so you will be able to get on the internet which you will definitely need – trust me.Get a good Linux book like one written by Sobell because you will need that too and good luck! A word of WARNING: Do not, under any circumstances, mess with the passwords until you fully understand the system. You will regret it!

Excellent book for understaning Ubuntu, from community to desktop to command line to packaging.
What makes this book great is that engages all types of users of Ubuntu. If you’re a desktop user or wanting to pick up the command line, there are parts of this book for you. It also has sections on the Ubuntu community for those who may be coming from other Open Source communities. The breadth is quite simply impressive. A great book for anyone wanting to get started with Ubuntu, but also I’m gonna guess some old pros would learn a few things too (I did).

    intro too long
Intro to long. Meant for a novice with no knowledge of Ubuntu. Normally customers interested in this they have already some knowledge how to use Ubuntu. In my opinion it should be two books. One intro ane one for a little more advanced and perhaps a third for specialists.

This is an excellent guide for Ubuntu Linux. The author did a great job of laying out the material in a proper order for new Ubuntu users! I am recommending the book as training and support materials for a Linux training for Windows engineers I will be providing at my employer.
