compact portable & waterproof.
I bought this camera & housing with accessories to take fixing as i wanted something smaller and portable to take in a dive on vacation. once i figured out its functions & how it worked, it worked very well for my needs. I wish there was a bit more instruction included and a wrist strap attachment but it’s compatible with Go Pro accessories so i bought something that worked while on vacation. I still can’t figure out how to get the still shots off the memory card with wifi but am sure if i look harder i’ll figure it out. The picture quality is fairly decent as well.

Good, could be better
I took a chance on this “HIicam Speed 50 Action Camera 4K 60FPS” because there was very little information available but it seemed to have decent specs. On paper, the model HC-AC10S Plus is a tiny powerhouse that has everything you might want in an action cam: 4K 30FPS native, 4K 60FPS (interpolated), front and rear screens, touch screen controls, image stabilization, noise reduction, “selfie mode”, webcam function (1080P @ 30fps), WiFi, USB-C, Micro-HDMI, updatable firmware, and is waterproof to 7M. It includes more accessories than I can count including a wristwatch-style remote control, 2x 1000mAh batteries, dual battery charger, waterproof housing (good to 130ft), plastic housing, handlebar mount, helmet mount, wrist strap, tether, USB-C cable, micro-USB cable, and USB-C microphone. The kit doesn’t include a micro-HDMI cable or a memory card. A memory card with at least a U3 speed rating is required. At the time I ordered the camera the listing claimed resolution to be “60MP” and battery size as “1350mAh”. For the camera I received, the box says “64MP” but only generates 20MP images, and the batteries are actually just 1000mAh. Caveat emptor.Out of the box the batteries had about 2/3 charge while the remote was completely drained. Batteries charge with the included dual battery charger and USB-C cable, while the remote charges with the micro-USB cable. Why they didn’t use a USB-C cable for this is beyond me.The user guide covers general camera operation and most (but not all) of the settings and functions but there are no specifications or details at all as to what this specific camera can do. The included accessories and their usage are completely undocumented as well, although most of them are easy enough to puzzle out.I did not test the camera in the water. The camera body appears to be weather resistant and the doors have quite good seals. Theoretically it can be used in the water without the included waterproof housing but I didn’t test this due to the complete lack of documentation as to proper usage. The camera can be accessed and controlled via WiFi using the “iSmart DV2” app, and an external monitor can be connected via the micro-HDMI connection. I did not test these features either. The camera has three hard buttons (Shutter/Select, Power/WiFi/NavDown and Mode/Back). Once I got used to the controls navigation was pretty easy. You can navigate and configure the camera via the three hard buttons, but the touch screen is the easiest way to operate the camera with tap and swipe motions.Photo modes are Single / Burst / P-Timelapse / CountDown and LongExp, and video modes are Normal / Seamless / V-Timelapse / SlowMotion / FastMotion. Virtually everything is configurable and there are more settings than I can discuss in this review.I tested the camera with a 128GB SanDisk U1 card as that’s the fastest card I have. Not U3, but it seemed to work and record both photos and video just fine.I tested EIS (stablilzation) mode and it definitely helps with smoothing out vibration motion but it’s a subtle effect that’s hard to see. This mode locks out the 120/240FPS modes as it seems to rely on high speed readout and frame averaging. The wrist remote can be used to trigger photo and video shutters. Unfortunately it doesn’t work if the camera has gone to sleep. There is a “Diving mode” function that is completely undocumented and what it does was not at all apparent. The USB-C connection can be used to access the micro-SD card, use the camera in webcam mode, power the camera or charge the battery. USB mode can be selected when the cable is attached. At the time of this review there is no information at all on Hiicam’s website and the specs in the Amazon listing are only partly correct. Most notable differences are camera resolution (20MP instead of 60/64MP) and battery capacity (1000mAh instead of 1350mAh).As a 20MP action cam I think it’s quite good with a great set of features, but it falls short in several areas. Resolution is good but not nearly as high as claimed. Likewise, battery capacity is good but not as high as claimed. Documentation is sparse and I feel is the camera’s biggest handicap. I would have appreciated more detailed information as to specifications, the different operating modes and settings, how to use the accessories, and guidance on using the camera in different situations. Web site support is currently non-existent; presumably information will become available eventually.

Great value for the hobbyist
This is a very good action camera for the cost-conscious consumer who want 95% of the features of the big name brands for only half the price. Let’s look at a few key features….Build QualityThis is a solidly built. I previously had a 4k action camera (about 6 years old, and not really 4K) which feels very lightweight in comparison to this camera. The outside is made of plastics and rubbers that are comfortable to the touch. The dual screens make taking selfie videos easier to stay in frame, and the rubberized battery and USB/HDMI compartment make for a water-tight seal without needing a case! Awesome!. On appearance and feel alone, you could probably fool many as to it’s true price point, sometimes under $100 on black Friday type sales. This would be a good value at $150, and even more so at under $120.Image qualityI’ve tested this in a number of modes, primarily 4K30, 1080p60, and 1080p120. This camera makes it easy to switch between recording resolutions. When recording in 1080p120, and then playing on my computer at 1/4 speed, it still looks smooth (as it should). I don’t find a drastic difference in image quality between modes when recording outdoors on a sunny/partly-sunny day. The colors seem consistent, and are very neutral/natural looking. There are a number of color adjustments you can select from in the menu, but I like the stock color tone. Not dull, but no over done with color adjusting nonsense so it looks unnatural.Indoor residential image quality suffers, and you will be mostly limited to a frame rate of 30. This is not uncommon for action cameras. Great for outdoors or very well lit indoor events, but a little grainy at night or indoors. It’s usable, but noticeable. A note on that if you are in the US…. Be sure to adjust the operating frequency to 60hz, as mine was 50hs out of the box. This will help to minimize light flicker.Other FeaturesThe touch screen operates very smoothly. I don’t find myself need to swipe or press multiple times to select what I need. The touchscreen is HIGHLY preferred to my previous camera which required pressing up and down buttons to navigate the menu system. Within the menu system the video resolution is the very first item, which will also likely be the most used, so this is a nice forethought. There are also a number of setting to enable/disable beeps, record on power, changing the language, multiple white balance/angle/distortion calibration settings, electronic image stabilization, and more. The image stabilization works ok, my previous camera did not have this and I would have to edit after the fact.If there were anyway this could be improved, I’d recommend shipping with a MicroSD card. I’d also like to see a 1/4″-20 mound directly on the camera. I don’t know that this is a common feature on any action cam sadly, so I can really deduct for it.This kit comes with a number of other basic accessories, and a nice waterproof wristband to start/stop video. Great value for the price. My first Hiicam product, and loving it!

Opening the battery compartment
I would have liked and kept it but what is detering is opening the battery hatch. I even hurt my finger trying to open it. Something to think about for your version.

Impressive picture quality
I was pretty impressed by the picture quality of this camera. I have had a few of the cheaper cameras before and a lot of them really weren’t that good. I needed one for a project and after checking the reviews I gave this one a shot. It turned out pretty good. My videos aren’t earth shattering masterpieces but I like them to look good and not put my phone in danger for some shots. This kit came with pretty much any accessory under the sun. Great for recording any situation.Outdoors in good sunlight this camera really shines. The blue skys are nice and saturated and look great. This is the camera that I keep in my hiking bag.
